What does an anthropologist do?

V6

Don't go mad with me, that was actually an email (no chorus involved) to an anthropologist, because I wanted to know what she does for a living all day long - and you can read her response on my blog. ---------- [Verse 1] If you fancy explaining your job to us stupid people in a way that we can understand? Is that possible? In a child-friendly way, with simple words? Is it like a vet lifting a cats tail to take a closer look at what's going on from a different angle? Just with people? [Chorus] What does an anthropologist do all day? Watching people walk and talk and drift away? Every little "why" becomes a clue, what does an anthropologist do? [Verse 2] Is that how I imagine it: you sneak two steps behind some person to find out more and when they notice you, you stop moving and starting whistling and look innocently at the air and then immediately sneak on when this person move on? And then when they stop and ask you "What do you want?" ... Your finger snaps in front of their face and you shout: "HA! Why did you just say that, I knew you would say something like that". [Chorus] What does an anthropologist do all day? Watching people walk and talk and drift away? Every little "why" becomes a clue, what does an anthropologist do? [Verse 3] Or are you more interested in the history of mankind: Do you ask why the Neanderthals didn't grow up in the sea, but on land? ... Well, because they didn't have gills, of course - I think so! Or for biology: Why did the Neanderthals die out on land? Well, maybe they had gills, but nobody can survive on land with them. Tz, tz, tz ... That's soooo obvious. Or are you in the here and now? Because when I look in the mirror, I very much doubt that the Neanderthals are extinct. I think one or two of them are still with us! [Bridge] But you already knew that I would ask something like that and you already have some answers for me - so child-friendly - that even I understand it. I'm curious as a fox and would be happy if I knew what an anthropologist does all day. [Chorus] Hey, mister anthropologist, tell me what you see, are you studying the whole wide world or only studying me? You smile and take your little notes, then disappear from view, hey, mister anthropologist, what exactly do you do?
