Restore What You Planted (Psalm 80)
[Verse 1] Shepherd of Israel, listen and hear, You lead Joseph’s flock, You keep them near; Enthroned on the cherubim, shine bright and clear. Before Ephraim, Benjamin, Manasseh, show Your might, Awaken Your power; come save us—shine bright. Lord God of armies, how long will You stay Angry with prayers that Your people still pray? You feed us on bread made of tears that we shed, You make us drink tears in full measure instead. You make us a conflict our neighbors all see, While enemies laugh at our misery. [Chorus] God, restore us, restore us, Make Your face shine upon us. God of armies, restore us, Make Your face shine upon us. And we will be saved, We will be saved. [Verse 2] You brought out a vine from Egypt’s land, You drove out the nations and planted by hand. You cleared out the ground; it took root deep and wide, It filled all the land, spreading side to side. Why tear down its hedges and open the way, So everyone passing can take fruit away? The boar from the forest comes eating it bare, And beasts of the field come and feed on it there. [Chorus] God, restore us, restore us, Make Your face shine upon us. God of armies, restore us, Make Your face shine upon us. And we will be saved, We will be saved. [Bridge] God of armies, turn back to this vine, Look down from heaven, see—take care of this vine. The shoot Your own right hand planted—this vine. Burned with fire, it is cut to the ground, At the rebuke of Your face, they perish, struck down. Let Your hand rest on the man at Your right, On the son of man You have strengthened with might. Then we won’t turn back, we won’t turn away; Give us life; we’ll call on Your name when we pray. [Chorus] Lord God of armies, restore us, Make Your face shine upon us. Lord God of armies, restore us, Make Your face shine upon us. And we will be saved, We will be saved.
