Les Paul Playing Pranks on Fellow Hotel Residents. Odd Radio Comments About Them Result In Amusing Incidents. Pensacola News Journal (Pensacola, Florida) · Sun, Dec 3, 1939 · Page 22: Residents of a certain suburban New York hotel, now resigned to getting a flood of double talk or even personal jibes when they tune in their radios, would no longer be surprised if their sets suddenly began serving coffee and doughnuts. Anything can (and does) happen over the Booger Brothers Broadcasting System. The 'BBBS' is the fiendish brain brat of Les Paul, maestro of the Les Paul Trio, swingsters heard daily with 'Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians' at 6:00 pm., CST.. over the NBC-Red network WCOA. Mechanically minded Les, knowing that 95 per cent of the 300 residents of the hotel were fellow radio performers, decided to give them some personalised programs. Aided by the doorman, Pat Coyne, he rigged up a microphone and a radio-phonograph in his apartment and plugged them Into the house radio-wiring system. [Instrumental jam break, wild and loose] Chaos followed as Les began switching his ''network'' in and out of the house system, completely blanketing regular broadcasts. If he doesn't like what his neighbors are hearing, he hops in with a recorded program, or ad-libbing, or re-routes his own favorite network broadcast to them! ("The most fun I've had,") says Les, ("was the lady with the pork chop. Some friends tipped me off they were having a guest for dinner, would serve pork chops and told me the hour for the meal. Halfway through I cut in with a bulletin that the lady was guest at a pork chop dinner, but was certainly forgetting manners the way she went for the food. My friends said she threw a chop halfway across the room, leaped from the table, and spilled coffee all over her jodphurs!") [Instrumental jam break, wild and loose]
