If I Could, You Can Too
[Verse 1] I was at the bottom, the darkest hole I'd ever known. The bottle felt like my only friend, while my body slowly faded away. I had the devil on one shoulder, and something good on the other, and they kept fighting in my head while I stood somewhere in between. People around me were worried, but I couldn't understand why. They never judged me, I just couldn't see what they were seeing. I was too lost inside myself to understand what they were trying to say. [Pre-Chorus] Now I look back with different eyes. I've grown, I've changed, I've learned. And some of it hurts more now because now I understand. [Chorus] I became who I am today because, somewhere along the way, I realized I had to save myself. I still carry the scars from every version of me I had to leave behind. For the first time, I can look in the mirror and not look away. I don't need to become someone else to believe I'm worth staying for. [Verse 2] There are things I did I don't know if I'll ever forgive myself for. Things I said, things I broke, people I hurt while I was hurting too. But the deepest pain I carry is knowing how much I hurt my mom and dad. They stood there watching me disappear, and I was too lost to understand what it was doing to them. They never deserved that version of me. And I know that now. I can't change what happened, but I want them to breathe easier now, to know they don't have to worry about me anymore. [Pre-Chorus] I didn't change for anyone else, I changed because I wanted to save myself. I finally listened to the good voice on my shoulder, the one that kept telling me I deserved a life beyond misery. [Chorus] I became who I am today because, somewhere along the way, I realized I had to save myself. I still carry the scars from every version of me I had to leave behind. For the first time, I can look in the mirror and not look away. I don't need to become someone else to believe I'm worth staying for. [Bridge] And to you who's listening right now, in that place you never thought you'd reach, I want you to know there is a way out. It might take time. It might take more than one try. You don't have to do it for somebody else. Do it for yourself. But if you need someone to be your reason to make it through another day, let them be your motivation for a while. Let their love remind you why you're still here, until you can feel that reason for yourself. [Chorus] I became who I am today because, somewhere along the way, I realized I had to save myself. I still carry the scars from every version of me I had to leave behind. For the first time, I can look in the mirror and not look away. I don't need to become someone else to believe I'm worth staying for. [Outro] I know how impossible it can feel. I know what it's like to believe you're too far gone. But if I could find my way out, you can too. You don't have to have all the answers. You don't have to change overnight. Just don't give up on the part of you that still wants a different life. If I could, you can too.
