just a temporary solution

[Intro] [Electric guitar and organ, steady roots-rock groove] [Verse 1] Friday evening, pager screaming Prod is bleeding on the floor We found the bug, we patched around it Said we’d fix it Monday morn Left a comment in the code: “Temporary, do not keep” Then the sprint rolled into next one And the comment got buried deep [Chorus] First make it work Then make it right Don’t call it done Just ’cause it made it through the night There’s nothing so permanent As a temporary solution Getting the system up Ain’t the same as resolution [Verse 2] There’s a script beneath the dashboard Running cron at 3:05 No one knows the man who wrote it But it keeps the whole damn stack alive It was meant to last a weekend Back in twenty twenty-two Now it owns the billing pipeline And nobody knows what to do [Chorus] First make it work Then make it right Don’t call it done Just ’cause it made it through the night There’s nothing so permanent As a temporary solution Getting the system up Ain’t the same as resolution [Bridge] [Band pulls back, vocal dry and pointed] Green don’t mean healthy Quiet don’t mean clean Working ain’t finished Just ’cause the foundation can’t be seen [Verse 3] So I’ll be the one still asking When the app looks clean and bright Why the hotfix branch is running Like that’s normal, like that’s right It still ain’t been through C-I Ain’t tested, ain’t in main Gotta prove it, gotta write it down Why’s this something I gotta explain? [Final Chorus] [Full band, more forceful but still weary] First make it work Then make it right Don’t call it done Just ’cause it made it through the night There’s nothing so permanent As a temporary solution Getting the system up Ain’t the same as resolution [Outro] [Band drops down, guitar and organ fading] Yeah, working ain’t finished It’s where finished begins Patch it in the daylight Or pay with your sleep at night [End]
