For this week's challenge I was assigned 2010s with no specific genre provided. For me, I related to it on a personal level as this was a time where I was beginning to realize what music scene spoke to me most. Basically anything you'd hear playing in a hot topic. Just to name a few CDs that I've played to the point of nearly burning out the disc. A Day To Remember with What Separates Me From You, in 2010. Askylit Drive with Rise, in 2013. So many days that one would play on my way to college from my apartment. I Prevail with their self titled 2014 album. The song Crossroads I related to as at a point in my life in was met with a crossroad for relocation in a career change. As well as literally all the pop goes punk series of albums as they were alot of my highschool pop and hip-hop anthems made metalcore. While it barely grazes the surface this genre really shaped my style as a creator and I am grateful for an opportunity in the assigned challenge to be able to further embrace and refine that sound. Living in Nebraska inclement weather is nothing unusual. We have all the seasons plus one. Spring, Summer, Tornado, Fall, and Winter. This is a midwestern story of tragedy. By comparing themes of devastation from a natural disaster to that of a relationship in imminent ruin. One that was formed from chaos to start. The cover art depicts a horrifying real phenomenon called sister tornandos, where two or more can be created from a single supercell. My goal was to maintain that balance of clean Vocals and growl elements in a similar style to some of the artists listed above. -LTN- [Intro] You're my cool breeze And I'm the rising pressure Every good thing gone awry I've tried To keep track and measure I've been hopeful this time Would be different and better But the national weather advisory Tells us to seek shelter — [Verse 1] [up-tempo] We clash like Thunderheads in July Words strike sharp lightning fills the sky We pull each other in like a funnel cloud forming But then we’re torn apart By that very truth we tried ignoring — [Pre-chorus 1] Our love’s a storm cloud always unpredictable and looming Will it dissipate or become a supercell, [Intense] [fully spoke] All consuuuming!?! — [Transition] [Pause] [Break] — [Chorus 1] We board up our hearts yet it breaks through the seams Slam the shelter door but it shatters the beams Drenched in regret will we end up drowning muffled echo of the sirens sounding — - [Riff] You are the spark and I’m the fuel We burn through love like it’s some kind of duel The Sirens wail but we don’t hear the chatter Nothing more than a natural disaster — (a natural disaster) [Transition] — [Verse 2] Maybe the chaos is all we’ve ever known Two forces collide but meant to be alone We reach for peace but it’s just the foundation Of a shattered home — [Up-tempo] — — [Pre chorus 2] Now the skies are dark and the sirens continue to wail We built this love on a storm-bound trail Debris and wreckage nothing left to save Just names carved in stone of a missing persons grave — [Chorus 2] You were the oxygen I breathed but we drowned in the downpour of wreckage and debris The stillness before the storm but that calm breaks faster We were never anything but! A natural disaster! — — [Riff] — — [Bridge] So let the winds howl and the floodwaters rise We were doomed from the start no way to disguise — [Soft spoken] — - [Buildup] It began intense and fast like a wildfire raging a night of regret in our carnal craving We knew it wasn't love this was never built to last just each other's beautiful wreck in the mornings aftermath — — — [Pause] [Break] [Transition] — Can we brace and restart or not even in our dreams This devastating storm will be the death of us it seems Prepared for the end gripping anything grounded Impending doom nears — [Scream] As sirens cut off sounding — [Drum transition] — — [Soft] — - [Pre Outro] We fought to find love in a world so cold Someone who understands another to hold We tried to hang on but it still didn't matter — [Up tempo] We were only. — a natural disaster - [Instrumental] — — [Outro] There’s nothing more I feel we can do or say! — [Scream] So let every-thing shatter! — We were never anything more, than a natural disaster. - [End]
