I can weep through the night. I can kneel until dawn. I can know every Scripture. But still be undone. I can labor for Heaven. I can stand in the flame. But if Jesus won't wash me, I'm still guilty and stained. Peter stood before the Master, With a heart that bowed in awe. “Lord, You will not wash my feet, Lord! This is more than I can ask!” But the Savior's answer thundered, Cutting through his humble plea: “If I do not wash you, Peter, You have no part in Me!” Can my tears remove my guilt? Can my sorrow pay the price? Can the best that I have offered Stand before the sacrifice? No repentance without Jesus! No salvation through my pain! Only Christ can cleanse the sinner! Only blood can wash the stain! ONLY JESUS CAN WASH ME! ONLY JESUS MAKES ME CLEAN! Not my works and not my goodness, Not the best I've ever been! NOT MY WORTH! NOT MY WORTHINESS! NOT THE THINGS THAT I HAVE DONE! I must come to Christ the Savior, To the blood of God's own Son! WASH ME, JESUS! MAKE ME CLEAN! Let Your saving mercy reign! Without You, I have no portion! You alone can break my chains! Peter preached before the crowds, Saw the power of the Lord. He had cast out evil spirits, He had spoken Jesus' Word. Would his service be sufficient? Would his courage pay the cost? Could a lifetime spent in labor Save a soul that still was lost? No! The noblest deeds of service Cannot cleanse the guilty heart. We must come to Christ for cleansing; There is no alternative part! I may preach to endless thousands! I may speak with angel tongues! I may know the hidden mysteries, Sing until my voice is gone! But if Jesus has not cleansed me, All my boasting comes to naught! I must trust the Crucified One— He alone has paid my cost! ONLY JESUS CAN WASH ME! ONLY JESUS MAKES ME CLEAN! Have I trusted in my service? Have I tried to hide my shame? Have I learned about the fountain Without coming to its flood? Have I spoken of the Savior Without trusting in His blood? KNOWING ABOUT HIM IS NOT ENOUGH! I must come to Christ! KNOWING WHAT IS RIGHT IS NOT ENOUGH! I must trust His blood! KNOWING I SHOULD CHANGE IS NOT ENOUGH! Lord, make me holy through Your Spirit! JESUS, WASH ME! MAKE ME CLEAN! You who tremble at your failures, You who think you're far too stained, Do not wait until you're worthy; Come to Christ and trust His name! You may bring Him all your sorrow, You may bring Him all your shame, But don't trust your tears to save you— Trust the Savior who was slain! He was wounded for transgressions, He was crushed for all our sin. Through His blood and resurrection, There is cleansing deep within! And the Christ who justifies you Sends His Spirit to renew. He forgives and sanctifies you; He makes all things new! Not the glory of a vision! Not the wisdom of the wise! Not the strength of human effort! Not the works that win men's eyes! Christ the Lamb who died to save us! Christ who rose up from the grave! Christ our only sure foundation! Christ with mighty power to save! The cross is where my hope is anchored! The blood has paid the debt I owe! The Spirit works to make me holy! By grace in Christ I'm washed as snow! What can wash away my sin? THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST! Who can make the guilty clean? THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST! What can give the dead new life? THE POWER OF THE RISEN CHRIST! Where must every sinner go? TO THE SAVIOR! TO THE CROSS! ONLY JESUS CAN WASH ME! ONLY JESUS MAKES ME CLEAN! Not my works and not my goodness, Not the best I've ever been! NOT MY WORTH! NOT MY WORTHINESS! NOT THE THINGS THAT I HAVE DONE! I will trust the Christ who died for me, God's beloved, risen Son!
