The Sustenance of Life #重低音v6

V6

(A four-and-a-half-tatami room. Inside an old house, it was connected to a new world.) (Between digital life, music, and live shows. I close my eyes. Deep. A little deeper.) (A voice beyond the headphones. What I received mattered more than what was said.) (I felt like I was being told to go on a journey.) (Experience. It is the sustenance of life.) (A sleeping bag, a tent, a small cooking kit, warm clothes. Carrying only what I needed to live, I headed into the unknown.) (No destination. I decided where to go only when it was time to move. Intuition over maps. Experience over time.) (A world I had only seen in books took on color before my eyes. Different plants, different ecosystems, different cultures. It felt like another country.) (At first, I slept close to the ground.) (Soon, every day was spent swinging an axe. Swing. Swing. Until the sun went down.) (By morning, my hands were so stiff they wouldn’t open. I laughed. Then swung again.) (Work, eat, sleep. At night, people gathered.) (A kind, larger-than-life man who loved to drink gave me a roof to sleep under.) (There was someone running around like Heidi. We said hello. That was all.) (Two guitars. Time shared by two people. Strings vibrate. The air vibrates.) (I didn’t know yet how far this small resonance would travel.) (Where there is light, there is shadow. Where there is shadow, there is light. Not one or the other. Both were there.) (The work ended. So I moved on.) (I crossed the sea.) (Dust. Narrow alleys. I had never seen them before. And yet, I knew them.) (I didn’t know this place. Yet somehow, I did. I had never been here. Yet it felt like I had come home.) (My body remembered before my mind did.) (I had always been searching for something unseen. Deeper awareness. Deeper breath. Something beyond them.) (One day, a man came down from the mountain.) (That was all.) (We walked along a narrow path. The man took nothing. He only gave. From hand to hand.) (He taught me how to breathe. He taught me stillness.) (Then I heard about a distant mountain.) (A mountain I knew only from photographs. It wasn’t my destination. I simply thought I’d like to see it someday.) (I lived among people who prayed. I sat in caves. We even feasted in caves.) (The boundary between the sacred and the everyday was thinner than I had imagined.) (We laughed, ate, and walked again.) (The higher I climbed, the thinner the air became. Step by step. Breath overtook words.) (Water born from snow. I stepped in.) (Cold doesn’t even begin to describe it.) (Philosophy had nothing to say. Only the body told the truth.) (I walked on.) (On the rooftop of a guesthouse, mountains stretched into the distance, endlessly themselves.) (Different countries. Different languages. Different sounds.) (Still, one person plays. Someone answers. Then someone else answers.) (Sound calls to sound. I join in.) (We lock in before counting. We answer before thinking.) (Something that exists before words passes from person to person.) (Calling it telepathy might be a little dramatic.) (But there’s no word for it except incredible.) (And once again, one person led me to another.) 「行こう」 (“Let’s go.”) (To the mountain I had once seen in photographs.) (She said she would lend me the money if I didn’t have enough. There was no reason to say no.) (On a journey without a destination, a place I had long dreamed of suddenly appeared before me.) (The air is thin. My head feels heavy. My legs feel heavy.) (Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out. Walk.) (The mountain that once existed only in photographs is now right in front of me.) (Not a photograph.) (Not a screen.) (Not a name.) (It was a mountain.) (Walk. Breathe in. Breathe out.) (I came home.) (A bowl of rice. Natto. An egg.) (Mix. Eat.) (Delicious.) (An ordinary meal was no longer just an ordinary meal.) (The world had always been vast. I simply hadn’t known it.) (I came home carrying so much that could never be given a price.) (The backpack has long since been put down. But what I carried home still remains.) (Experience. It is the sustenance of life.)
