As of late I’ve been finding myself drifting …. Like the rambling man that haunts the radio . We collide behind the shadows But I’m already gone when the sun hits your window . My only witness, cold prints that I’ve left. A coward a failure - I’m no good at best. The spirit that is in me, determined to disappear. The feeling that fills me- The sinking, the fear. I know you meant well, but I’m a bastard, a son Born disaster on the run, moving faster, the fun As far as I can tell, is a long done dream I’m not chasing a thing. But my tail.. Still when I’m gone, I hate to think you’d remember With a hard heart not torn, a-refusing surrender. So you be make-believe ; So I be the pretender. Imaginary friend, My dear when will you show your beauty here again? You say- you go your own way; I’ll go my own way I fancied myself a loner. A barfly a tough guy. A joker a stoner.. Sweetheart, my strings are slow coming unraveled. I hum the country song themes….Of a broken man’s troubles Alone the path I have worn, and the road, so many years traveled; But I’m still moving. Don’t know where to hang my head. I’m just hanging from a short rope wasting my dollars on bourbon, legs, and good dope. Better off dead. Wasting away…. Wasting my days in a daze. Sometimes I get so lonely- it’s my only means of escape. Abandoned , a loving family, left my loyal lady For a needle and a spoon. Kept company with the devil. In a dingy motel room. We were dying together as we hid from the outside. As we slept in a comfortable cocoon of a drug induced daydream….. I slowly died.. As I laughed at the world, We convinced me there’d be other girls. But girl this high. Ain’t no bed of roses.: Got me looking in mirrors and seein’ strange faces. Thought of you when. I tied off the vein. Missed you sometimes. In those unwelcome places. Gritted my teeth And I felt the release Nod out again now , my only peace. I’m a slave to my two loves and I’ll never be free. I guess one will have to do. Love, I’ll be seeing you….. Don’t know what you saw me, but now that it’s over I want to grab your hand, take you down with me, lover. Ride the rail follow the track, till there’s no turning back And the consequence catches us. But you can’t be found and I’m too far gone now See you around…. I rode to the edge of town, where the forgetting is easiest…. Maybe someday the sun will fall from the sky; Burn up the memories and blind tired eyes; Swallow, me, darling, and eat you alive; Maybe some future you’ll look back and smile. Think of some pleasure that only lasted a while. Maybe some lifetime we both will recall How we lived in the fast lane, crashed into a wall. Or maybe you’ll get lucky Won’t remember at all. You can sit in your high-rise. As your gentleman call. Your strut will be straight, your stance will be tall. Your lover will fuck you while he thinks of himself. He’ll greet you with tidings, your gift horse a-riding; He’ll claim he’s exciting, and like him there’s none else. He’ll make you an object, Put you on the shelf. When you collect your dust When love separates from lustWhen you’re fiending for friendship, with no one to trust, Maybe you’ll think of The feelings we felt. Or maybe you’ll just hang yourself with a belt. (Either way, baby I guess I’ll see you in hell.)
