[Instrumental Intro] [Verse 1] I built a castle out of couch cushions and string You said "this is ours, no one else gets in" We ruled the backyard like it was the whole world Chased the sunset till the streetlights unfurled Your hand fit mine like it was always meant to We never needed maps—we just knew [Pre-Chorus] But the grown-ups kept calling us back inside Said "dreams are for children, now swallow your pride" We laughed like we knew they were lying But the door got smaller every time we tried [Chorus] Somewhere only we know, the sky stayed gold Somewhere only we know, the stories never got old We left footprints in places no one else could find Now I'm searching for the kingdom we left behind Catch the light before it fades away Hold the frame—don't let it turn to gray [Verse 2] The fence line used to stretch to forever and back We carved our names in the oak tree's cracked bark You wore that same sundress till the hem fell apart Said "when we grow up, we'll never be apart" But the summers got shorter, the swings got too small And one day the castle wasn't there at all [Pre-Chorus] I still feel your shadow run across the lawn Still hear your laugh in the quiet before dawn The grown-up world said "let it go, move on" But I keep the key to where we belong [Chorus] Somewhere only we know, the sky stayed gold Somewhere only we know, the stories never got old We left footprints in places no one else could find Now I'm searching for the kingdom we left behind Catch the light before it fades away Hold the frame—don't let it turn to gray [Bridge] IT'S NOT GONE. (Not gone...) THE DOOR'S STILL THERE, IT'S JUST HARD TO SEE (Hard to see...) I close my eyes and you're waiting for me Same sundress, same grin, same "come and see" We don't have to grow up... not tonight We can stay right here... under golden light [Guitar Solo / Crescendo] [Final Chorus] Somewhere only we know... (only we know...) The sky stayed gold... (stayed gold....) We left footprints no one else could find I'm still searching... for the kingdom we left behind Catch the light... before it fades away Hold the frame... don't let it turn to gray [Outro] You're still in there... waiting for me... Somewhere only we know...
