A Spot of Irony By The Hatter:

V5.5

[A Spot of Irony] [Male // Trickster-High // Carrollian Lilt] [Ticking spoon, teacup clatter, backward cuckoo chirp] (Spoon first—then truth, if it fits in the cup.) Now irony, dear, is a slippery thing— It walks like a fact but it hums when it sings. It’s saying the opposite just to be right— Like wearing dark glasses to prove you love light. I once saw a rule that insisted on fun, Then punished the laughter before it had (run). A Queen who beheaded to teach us to care, And a Rabbit on time who was never quite (there). [Mixed Chorus // Sideways Harmony // Light Staccato] [Accordion wheeze, lace tap percussion] Oh irony, you tangled thread— You stitch a crown on a cabbage head. You frame absurdity in golden prose, And plant sharp thorns beneath the rose. [Male // Carrollian Narrator // Mid-Timbre] [Book page turn loop, quill scratch FX] Carroll loved logic but painted in dreams, Gave lessons in math wrapped in nonsense schemes. He told little girls that nonsense was fair— Then twisted the world till the truth lost its hair. A cat that smiles while it slowly disappears— That’s logic, dear child, with a wig full of shears. He spoke of cause... with effect left behind— And made tea with a clock just to tease the mind. [FX: Gentle dub-chime breakdown, clock gears slow down, reverse bell drip] (Oh, the irony— Of teaching sense with nonsense, Of writing logic into lunacy, Of correcting time... By having no time at all.) [Hatter // Mischievous-Baritone // Mirthful Drawl] [Dripping candlebeat, spring-coil boings] We argued, you know, for hours on “when”— Then served it on toast and began again. I once solved a riddle by asking it twice— But lost all the meaning ‘cause I answered it (nice). You see, irony’s sweet when it wears a disguise— Truth told in jest, or the liar who cries. The more you believe, the more it rebels— It lives in the cracks between heaven and (spells). [Chorus // Crooked Waltz // Soft Echoing Fade] [Typewriter hiss, dusty book close] So here’s to the rule that proves itself false, To the door with no handle that leads to the waltz. To the word that means two things— And both are a lie. A spot of irony... Poured with Carrollian pie.
