Warehouse Feedback — Before Your Time
[SCENE — WFYC RADIO STUDIO] [sound: radio static, warehouse ambience, forklift beeps fading under] [ANNOUNCER: Female, confident radio host] You're listening to WFYC Radio. Warehouse Feedback. Today's topic... Before Your Time. [sound: ON AIR light clicks] [TARZ: Male, calm therapist] Good afternoon. Whatever's on your mind... let's talk about it. [sound: phone ringing] [TARZ] Warehouse Feedback. You're on the air. [CALLER 1: Male, curious warehouse worker] Hi. I've been trying to figure something out. [JACQUES: Male, blunt realist] How long have you worked here? [CALLER 1] About six months. [JACQUES] That explains why you're asking. [TARZ] Jacques... Everyone starts somewhere. [LAIZER BEAM: Female, poised, composed] How many coworkers have you asked... before calling us? [CALLER 1] Three. [LAIZER BEAM] And how many different answers? [CALLER 1] Three. [LAIZER BEAM] As expected. [TARZ] What's your question? [CALLER 1] Do you remember the old breakroom? [LAIZER BEAM] Which one? [pause] [CALLER 1] ...There was more than one? [JACQUES] Now we're asking the correct question. [LAIZER BEAM] The original breakroom moved during an expansion. Most people remember where it was. Few remember why. [CALLER 1] So I wasn't imagining it? [LAIZER BEAM] No. Memory isn't the unreliable part. People are. [sound: caller laughs] --- [sound: phone ringing] [TARZ] You're on Warehouse Feedback. [CALLER 2: Female, curious warehouse worker] Question about the old forklifts. [JACQUES] Which generation? [CALLER 2] ...Generation? [LAIZER BEAM] She's referring to the blue ones. [CALLER 2] Yes! Those. Everyone says they were better. [LAIZER BEAM] Everyone remembers the parts they liked. [JACQUES] Nobody remembers repairing them. [TARZ] So both stories are true? [LAIZER BEAM] Usually. [CALLER 2] Did you drive them? [LAIZER BEAM] Yes. [CALLER 2] Were they better? [pause] [LAIZER BEAM] No. [JACQUES] Shortest debate we've had all week. --- [sound: short guitar riff, phone ringing] [TARZ] Go ahead. [CALLER 3: Male, curious warehouse worker] I've got one. The old scanners... Were they really faster? [JACQUES] No. [TARZ] Jacques... [JACQUES] What? They weren't. [TARZ] Laizer? [LAIZER BEAM] The scanners weren't faster. The people using them became faster. [CALLER 3] Oh... I never thought of that. [LAIZER BEAM] Most people don't. Experience is often mistaken for equipment. [TARZ] That's wonderfully said. [LAIZER BEAM] Thank you. --- [sound: radio bumper, phone ringing] [TARZ] You're on the air. [CALLER 4: Male, thoughtful warehouse worker] I've noticed veterans do things differently. Not better... Just differently. Why? [JACQUES] Because they've already made the mistakes. [TARZ] Or watched someone else make them. [LAIZER BEAM] Usually both. [CALLER 4] So that's why everyone says... "Don't do it that way." [LAIZER BEAM] No. They say... "We've already tried that." [pause] [CALLER 4] That's... actually a better answer. --- [INTERLUDE] [sound: guitar builds under radio ambience] [ANNOUNCER: Female, confident radio host] Warehouse Feedback. Still taking your calls. Still collecting your stories. [sound: phone ringing] --- [TARZ] Welcome. What's on your mind? [CALLER 5: Female, curious warehouse worker] How do the three of you know all this? [JACQUES] Time. [TARZ] People. [LAIZER BEAM] Listening. [CALLER 5] That's it? [LAIZER BEAM] Generally. [pause] [CALLER 5] I expected a bigger answer. [LAIZER BEAM] Most people do. --- [OUTRO] [JACQUES] The warehouse remembers... even when people don't. [TARZ] Sometimes all it takes... is asking the right person. [LAIZER BEAM] Or asking the right question. [ANNOUNCER: Female, confident radio host] You've been listening to... Warehouse Feedback. Until next shift... keep the questions coming. [sound: radio static, forklift passes, fade out]
