Intro — spoken, over Rhodes and brushed cymbals] I woke up tired. Tired of shooting skittles up into your black cloud. But I woke up honest — and honest is different than tired. --- [Verse 1 — half-spoken, half-sung, slow] Even in my own accountability I can understand him ’cause I once was him — not the same way, not the same harm, but I was a liar too. The difference is I never stole, I never hurt — but I played the victim more times than I can count. I didn’t understand that my own distraction was causing my own chaos. So when the chaos came I said she did it, he did it — but true accountability is asking the why. Why did my choices cause my own consequences? --- [Hook — sung, warm and low] I am not the victim. But neither are you. I am not the villain. But neither are you. We were two hearts holding two mirrors — and one of us finally turned around. --- [Verse 2 — spoken, tempo picks up slightly] Even the somewhat-healed version of me still fell for someone else’s reflection. And I’ll tell you why I did it — I did it because I loved him. I loved him as a human. I allowed the flaws because I saw breakthrough. I loved the possible-him that hadn’t happened yet. I held the door for a man who never walked through it. That was mine to learn. Not yours to teach. --- [Bridge — sung, spiritual] I ran my own marathon from my own marriage. I filed. I signed. I walked away. I know what it costs to be the one who leaves — so I can hold your leaving without hating you for it. But I can hold mine too. I can hold mine too. --- [Verse 3 — sung, softer] The universe keeps handing me snippets of what could’ve been — what should’ve been. Different faces, same lesson, same tender teacher in different clothes. So here’s me taking accountability. I don’t need you to be a monster to justify my leaving. I don’t need to be perfect to justify my grief. I am just a woman who is done being the reflective surface for someone else’s unfinished work. --- [Hook — sung, stronger] I am not the victim. But neither are you. I am not the villain. But neither are you. We were two hearts holding two mirrors — and one of us finally turned around. --- [Outro — spoken, over fading Rhodes] I accept the part I played in every situation of my life. I don’t regret anything. I love hard. I love unconditionally. And no matter what — I will always manifest being a great mother, being a great human, succeed in creating my own happiness. I don’t need you to be the reason I heal. I am the reason I heal.
