[Intro - Male] Lights on the field cold in the stands you in my jacket cider on my hands [Verse 1 - Male country] Friday puts a different kind of weight on the town Everybody shows up wearing somebody else's crown of a jersey or a flannel or a hope they will not name I saved you a seat where the wind hits the same as it did last year, only this year you are here Kickoff weather, first real cold of the year Cooler in the bed, radio low between plays You ask me the rules like you care about the days I spent learning this place by the sound of the crowd I explain the down, then I watch you laugh out loud at a referee call that went against our side Kickoff weather, and I want you in my ride when the clock hits zero and the lights stay bright Not for the win. For the ride home through the night [Pre-Chorus - Male sung] The air got sharp the band got loud you leaned in closer to hear me in the crowd [Verse 2 - Female rap] I do not do football. I do people who do and the way your whole face changes when the play breaks through Stadium light on my cheek like a second kind of day I wore your jacket because mine looked too city for the fray of parents and students and a town that holds its breath Kickoff weather, I can feel it in my chest Not the sport. The belonging. The borrowed team pride I rap my nerves down so I can stand at your side without looking like a tourist with a cup and a phone I put the phone away. I let the night be known as the first time I cheered for something I barely understand because you understood me enough to take my hand [Pre-Chorus - Female sung] The air got sharp the drums got near you said my name and I could hear [Chorus - Both] Kickoff weather cold enough to mean it lights on the field like the year could still redeem it You in my jacket me in your crowd Kickoff weather say it out loud Kickoff weather we do not need a reason Friday night proof in a short cold season If the clock runs out we still drive home slow Kickoff weather and I will not let you go [Verse 3 - Male country] Halftime band, brass bright, kids out of breath You asked if we always lose this close to death I said we win enough to keep showing up You said that sounds like love with a paper cup I did not correct you. I let the sentence sit Kickoff weather has a way of making truth fit inside a joke and a blanket and a shared pair of gloves I have watched a hundred games. This is the one that loves the way you pay attention like the score is a story not a number. That is new. That is glory [Verse 4 - Female rap] I can learn a playbook if you teach it with patience I can learn a town if it makes a little space in its cadence for a girl who talks fast and still wants to stay Kickoff weather is the name of this particular day when the cold arrives honest and the lights stay kind and your shoulder is a place I did not know I would find I am not converting to the sport. I am converting to the seat beside you when the whole place rises to its feet [Chorus - Both, bigger] Kickoff weather cold enough to mean it lights on the field like the year could still redeem it You in my jacket me in your crowd Kickoff weather say it out loud Kickoff weather we do not need a reason Friday night proof in a short cold season If the clock runs out we still drive home slow Kickoff weather and I will not let you go [Bridge - Both] [Male] Fourth and long still I stay [Female] Wrong side of the ball still I stay [Both] Scoreboard lights do not get the final say [Verse 5 - Trade] [Male] Stay for the last quarter [Female] I am already staying [Male] Stay for the quiet road [Female] I hear what you are saying [Both] Kickoff weather wrote us into the night [Final Chorus - Both, loudest] Kickoff weather cold enough to mean it lights on the field like the year could still redeem it You in my jacket me in your crowd Kickoff weather say it out loud Kickoff weather we do not need a reason Friday night proof in a short cold season If the clock runs out we still drive home slow Kickoff weather and I will not let you go [Outro - Male then Female then Both] [Male] Lights go down crowd goes home [Female] Jacket stays on we are not alone [Both] Kickoff weather carries us on
