This one..is about.. The first girl i ever loved. (Verse 1) I knew her by the squeaky wheel, the one i'd always fix I knew her by the songs she’d hum, like morning radio hits I knew the way the sunlight fell across her bedroom wall I knew her laugh, I knew her name, but she didn’t know me at all I watched her learn to ride her bike, I watched her fall sometimes And every night I’d fall asleep just wishing she was mine (Chorus) And I’d have given her the moon, pulled it down from the sky Wrapped it in a promise, no questions, no reply I’d have worshipped every step she took on that old gravel street But she didn’t see me watching, she didn’t notice me Of a heart that beat for her alone, a love she’d never own I’d have given her the ocean deep… but she wanted a Al Capone. (Verse 2) I finally wrote my heart on paper, my hands were shaking so I told her all the secret things I needed her to know She read it on her veranda step, a tiny, sad smile grew She said, "You're sweet, but you're my friend, there's nothing more I feel for you." She said she saw me as a brother, it was gentle, it was kind But the world went black behind her as she gently spoke her mind (Chorus) And I’d have given her the moon, pulled it down from the sky Wrapped it in a promise, no questions, no reply I’d have worshipped every step she took on that old gravel street But she didn’t see me watching, she didn’t notice me Of a heart that beat for her alone, a love she’d never own I’d have given her the ocean deep… but she wanted a Al Capone. (Bridge) Then came a stranger with a foreign face, and a city-slicker smile He had a way with words so smooth, he had her from his smile I watched her hang on every line, her world was upside down I watched her give her heart to the most fairy guy in town I saw the way he’d hold her hand, I saw the way he’d lie And from my tree perch, helplessly, I watched her say goodbye... to the truth. (Verse 3) He took her out to fancy places, spent money like the rain But I saw the cracks behind his smile, the hidden, growing stains And now she’s left with empty hands and a fading, borrowed light While I’m still here with a world of love, just waiting in the night She wonders where the magic went, she wonders how she fell But she never looked next door, where real love actually dwelled. (Outro) Yeah, I’d have given her the moon… I’d have torn it from the sky For a girl who didn’t want the moon She just wanted a lie. Why the hell i couldn't see anything cept her grin alas i didn't know the lonely life, my heart would settle in. (Light picking of the main melody fades out)
