Canticum de Fide et Ratione
O Lord, faith became a trade, priests as merchants served, zeal was coin for bread, trust was sealed in Thee. Thou hast sown the seed, markets grew from faith, praise became gain, and gain returned to Thee. O God, in Ghana they give, coins for mercy’s shield, gifts for burial’s cost, hope for life preserved. Yet when law insures, offerings fade away, the altar thins, but Thou remainest sure. O mind, why behold the cloud, why see spirits move, why believe the dream, though reason finds it not? Yet in trust of such, men learn to trust their kin, ghosts teach the heart, and trust is born of Thee. O judge, some say all is loss, my gain is thy pain, the loaf too small to share, envy rules the feast. But Thou preparest, a table for all, love multiplies, and fear is cast away.
