Narrative: The Threshold Anomaly
They closed the door. They pressed the button. That’s when I split from time. I went in two. I came out… less. The drum kept turning, like it didn’t notice. Like it was busy believing in repetition. I stuck to the wall, warm, wet, forgotten. (you counted pairs...) (you trusted math...) The water knew my name. The soap erased it. I slid between seconds, folded into heat. stay... stay... I’m not missing. I was selected. I wasn’t lost. I was kept. (balance costs something...) There are others here. Grays with no memory. A red one that screams at night. Mismatched survivors crawl the floor above us, dragging guilt. (you wear them anyway...) The lint builds up like snowfall. Soft. Endless. Everyone leaves a little body behind. left... left... I’m not missing. I was selected. The machine needed quiet. The universe needed even. (you needed one less...) Do you hear that hum? That’s prayer. The dryer isn’t loud. It’s chanting. round... round... I learned the pattern. Heat means mercy. Silence means you’re next. They say I live better now. They say I’m free. (nothing leaves the drum...) I’m not missing. I was selected. If I come back, something else goes. (choose carefully...) I’m still warm. I remember your foot.
