I strummed on rusted strings 'neath the jasmine sigh, Moon hangin’ crooked in a gumbo sky. Whiskered breeze slid past my green ol’ grin, Said, “Sing it slow, Bayou Slim…” Dusk on Bourbon skin, Where the silence wears a hymn. Got my soul on a windowsill, And my heart in a rusted tin. Redbrick alley got a voodoo hum, Muffled tales roll off a Cajun drum. Pickin’ through ghosts and sweet regret, Each fret’s a memory I ain't played yet. Old willow weeps in harmony, While a streetlamp nods in sympathy. The stars play poker, the bats cut deals, And I play tunes only midnight feels. Dusk on Bourbon skin, Where the frog plays for his kin. With a vintage soul and a crackling sound, I keep the dusk from draggin’ down.
