02 - The Last Dance With The Void
Beneath the moon’s ethereal glow, Khensu begins to trace, The words of power, soft as breath, upon his withered face. In trembling hands, the ancient tome, its words alight, sublime, A vow to bind himself to dreams, to live beyond all time. "This vessel is dust; this soul is flame. Drink now, O shadow of unmaking, That which the void rejects! Free the marrow of existence! Separate the name from the bearer! I speak the syllables that bleed, The tongue that devours itself. With blood that runs against time, I carve the infinite knot! The soul passes through the unraveled web. Through the eye of death, I crawl backward. Through the throat of time, I rise! Unfold the void’s hymns—echoes upon echoes—until nothing can speak but me!" The spell is spoken, written words alight then slowly fade, Each syllable a link in chains that bind Khensu to his fate. The air grows dense, the fabric tears, a chasm deep and wide, And in the maw of magick’s core, the rules of life collide. He speaks the final, fateful verse, his breath both weak and wild, The spell completes, the silence falls, the storm within exiled. But nothing stirs, no change appears, his mortal frame remains, No timeless spark, no endless flame, no respite from this domain. “No!” he cries, his voice a wound that splits the still, cold air, His hands collapse to fists, his face contorts with despair. “Years of toil, a thousand nights, all for nothing, a fall from this height? Have I defied the gods themselves, just to fail in this cursed rite?” The tomes are hurled to stone-clad walls, their pages are torn and strewn, His wrath ignites the candles’ flames, in his fury none are immune. The books once radiant fade to ash beneath his vengeful glare, As Khensu’s hopes collapse like dust, his will dissolves into despair. Exhausted, broken, by the hearth he crumbles to his knees, His breath a ghost, his spirit worn, now seeking to appease. The fire wanes, the shadows stretch, the dawn’s approach in view, And in its light, he whispers low, “There's naught left to do.” Khensu nods, his gaze serene, the weight begins to fade, For in his son’s devoted care, a fragile peace is laid. The morning breaks, the room aglow, a warmth that feels divine, And in its glow, Khensu resigns to cross the mortal line.
