Inspired by the novel „Coraline“ by Neil Gaiman (2002) and its 2009 film adaptation] ############################## [Verse 1 – mysterious, dark, intimate, piano and subtle strings] Buttney walks through silent halls, Her parents lost in work and walls. The only friend, a clever cat, Who seldom purrs, but often scratches back. And that weird kid-she won’t talk back. Lonely days and empty rooms, A tiny door, a world resumes. She hesitates, heart full of doubt- But the whisper calls, she dares step out. [Verse 2 – enchanting, slightly brighter, strings and gentle choir] A family greets her, arms held wide, A sister smiles and sits beside. The cat is here, he softly purrs, The kid is bright, no longer blurs. Everything feels strange, but right. She visits them for three long days, Each time more drawn into their ways. The love she craved, the warmth, the care- But something’s off beneath the glare. [Pre-Chorus 1 – seductive, building tension, layered vocals, subtle FX] The mother coos, “Don’t go away, Stay with us, let worries stray, Wouldn’t you love to always stay?” [Chorus 1 – soaring, operatic, powerful, layered female choir, epic harmonies] Sew on the buttons, leave behind Your gray old world, your troubled mind. With button eyes, you’ll always see A perfect life, forever free. [Verse 3 – tense, dramatic, heavier guitars, orchestral swells] Buttney turns to go-she finds The door is locked, she’s trapped inside. Panic rises, trust decays, The mother’s love-a twisted maze. The cat and kid appear, unite, They whisper plans to help her fight. Together plotting to break free- Buttney clings to hope and memory. [Pre-Chorus 2 – menacing, sharp, FX: scissor sounds, dramatic choir] The mother stands, her eyes agleam, She snaps the scissors-sharp and mean. “Choose the buttons-or else,” she said. [Chorus 2 – intense, threatening, choir with dramatic harmonies] Sew on the buttons, or you’ll stay A lost, forgotten soul of clay. With button eyes, you’ll never cry- You owe it to us, so don’t deny. [Verse 4 – triumphant, driving, full band, orchestral, choir] The cat distracts, the kid unlocks, They trick the mother, break her box. Buttney grabs her friends, they run, Escaping fast, the deed is done. She slams the door forevermore, Back to her world, safe and sure. [Bridge – cinematic, emotional, swelling orchestra and choir] Back home, her parents hold her tight, They listen long into the night. She finds two friends, both brave and true- The cat, the kid, a world anew. They smash the door, the nightmare ends, And now, at last, they play as friends. [Outro – hopeful, atmospheric, fading choir and nature FX] No buttons sewn, no eyes to hide, Buttney stands with friends beside. Her world is bright, her heart is strong- She’s found her place, where she belongs.
