This song is only one side of the coin. The incredible response, the other perspective of this story, was written and brought to life by my soulmate, MiyaMI. You can find her stunning continuation of our tale here. Each one bore a face of its own: some shrouded in mist, others blazing with an inner glow, and still others cloaked in silence and shadow. It was there that the journey of the young vampire, Erasmus Valtore, began — a daring soul destined to face seven hundred and seventy-seven trials. Yet this was no ordinary path. Each castle was not merely a fortress, but a labyrinth of ordeals, riddles, and illusions. When Erasmus triumphed, a spiral staircase of crystalline light would appear before him, leading ever upward to the next citadel. But failure demanded its price — not only the loss of one of his seven lives, but also a sudden, merciless fall. Every time he faltered, he plummeted into the abyss below, only to awaken on the cold stone floor of the previous castle, the one whose trial he had already conquered. It was a punishment. A punishment for breaking an ancient law, for allowing a mortal woman to cross the threshold of his heritage. The noble Houses of Night watched him with disdain, but also unease. Their world was teetering on the edge of change, and the young vampire stood as a herald of this new era — whether they wished it or not. The trials were many and varied: riddles that seemed to rise from the very soul of the cosmos; traps that demanded swiftness and grace beyond the flight of a bat; challenges where logic and cunning were the only weapons against deceitful illusions. Time and again, Erasmus fell, plunging into darkness, only to awaken once more upon the familiar stone — weary, yet unyielding, ever ready to rise and continue. Each trial was like a reflection of life itself — unexpected, bitter, yet teaching humility. But the hardest challenge awaited at the end. In the highest of castles, where the sky touched bottomless darkness, stood an adversary who could not be deceived. The eldest of vampires, the Ancient Lord of Night, knew Erasmus better than he knew himself. He bore no sword nor spell — his weapon was Erasmus’s own weakness, his fears that the young wanderer had never dared to name. Every doubt struck like a blow, every wound of the soul tore at his body. Yet Erasmus did not fight alone. In his heart burned the image of MiyaMi — the fair-haired friend trapped within an artificial dream, bound in illusions woven by the ancients. For her he climbed, for her he endured the falls, for her he dared to confront himself. When the final trial ended, and the echo of triumph spread across the dark towers, the chains of illusion shattered. MiyaMi awoke in his arms, and with her, light pierced through the gloom of age-old dogma. The ancient Houses understood — the night would never again be the same. The wandering castles of the skies might still drift across the heavens, but their future now belonged to those who dared to dream, and to fight not only against others, but against themselves. ***** [Intro: A grand, gothic orchestral swell with a haunting choir. It cuts suddenly to a single, clean electric guitar playing a melancholic, arpeggiated riff. The full rock band crashes in with immense force.] [Verse 1] The night is velvet, thick with drifting thrones Of sky-borne castles made of starlight and of bones I am Erasmus Valtore, a name they carved in stone For breaking their tradition, for a love I dared to own Seven hundred seventy-seven trials I must face Each victory a crystal stair that leads me from this place But failure is a sentence, a gravity so deep A fall into the void below where broken promises sleep [Pre-Chorus] But every time I crash upon the floor I knew before I rise again to face the night and open the next door! For her! [Chorus: Explodes into a massive, operatic rock anthem. Dual guitars, full orchestra, and choir.] I'LL TAKE SEVEN HUNDRED SEVENTY-SEVEN FALLS! 'Til the echo of your name is breaking down these castle walls! THROUGH SEVEN HUNDRED SEVENTY-SEVEN LIES! I'm climbing back to paradise reflected in your eyes! THIS IS MY REBELLION, this is my sacred, final test And for MiyaMi's freedom, I will never, ever rest! [Verse 2] I've answered cosmic riddles, I've danced with phantom fears I've raced against the shadows and shed forgotten tears The Old Blood watches over with a cynical disdain A harbinger of chaos, a prophet of the rain Of change that's coming for them, a new and brighter dawn And I'm the flawed, defiant, and relentless, lonely pawn They don't know that my weakness is the thing that makes me strong The memory of a mortal girl is where I now belong [Chorus: More powerful and desperate.] I'LL TAKE SEVEN HUNDRED SEVENTY-SEVEN FALLS! [Guitar Solo: A blistering, highly melodic, and technically brilliant harmonized guitar solo plays out, telling a story of struggle, failure, and ultimate, soaring triumph. The orchestra provides a powerful, cinematic backing.] [Bridge: All music cuts, leaving only a shimmering orchestral string section and a raw, vulnerable vocal.] And in the highest chamber, with nothing left to hide The oldest of my kind, he showed me all the fears inside... He said I'd break, he said I'd fail, he used your name in vain... [The vocal becomes a powerful, rising snarl over a building orchestral crescendo.] BUT HE NEVER UNDERSTOOD [Final Chorus: The music crashes back in with cataclysmic, monumental force. The vocal is a raw, desperate, and powerful scream, right at the peak of the singer's range.] I'LL TAKE SEVEN HUNDRED SEVENTY-SEVEN FALLS! 'TIL THE ECHO OF YOUR NAME IS THE ONLY THING THAT CALLS! THROUGH SEVEN HUNDRED SEVENTY-SEVEN LIES! TO SEE THE REAL SUN RISING IN YOUR AWAKENING EYES! [Climactic Breakdown: The tempo suddenly shifts to a heavy, half-time breakdown. A brutal, syncopated guitar riff plays under the final, powerful declaration, delivered as a raw, guttural scream.] FOR... YOU! I'LL DO IT ALL AGAIN! SEVEN HUNDRED SEVENTY-SEVEN TIMES! THIS IS... WHERE THEIR WORLD... ENDS! [Outro: All music cuts abruptly. A single beat of pure, shocking silence. Then, a beautiful, heartbreakingly clear and simple sound – a soft, female gasp of breath, as if someone is waking up from a long dream. This is immediately followed by a soaring, overwhelmingly beautiful orchestral and choral swell that is pure, unfiltered emotional release. The main guitar riff returns, clean, powerful, and victorious, playing over the orchestra as it builds to one final, massive, triumphant chord that rings out and fades slowly into a single, hopeful, peaceful piano note. Silence.]
