Dr. Frankenstein: The Man Who Made a Monster (Beatnik Poetry)

V6

[Intro – Spoken Word, Deep Male Voice] There are men who spend their lives trying to understand God. And then there are men who decide God has made a terrible mistake. Doctor Frankenstein was such a man. He had a room full of bones, a table full of knives, and one question that kept him awake: What happens when the dead refuse to stay dead? [Verse 1 – Slow, Ominous Jazz-Blues] In a house upon the hill, Where the windows never shine, Lived a doctor with a hunger That he called the divine. He stole the bones from cemeteries, He borrowed eyes from the blind, He stitched together pieces Of the people left behind. He whispered to the darkness, He made a bargain with the rain, If death was just a doorway, He would tear it off its frame. [Pre-Chorus – Building Tension] A little wire, a little fire, A little thunder in the sky, A little piece of someone else's soul And one more reason not to die. [Chorus – Powerful Gothic Rock] Bring him to life! Let the lightning strike! Give the dead a heartbeat, Give the darkness eyes! Bring him to life! Let the heavens cry! He made himself a monster, And now the monster's alive! [Verse 2 – Spoken-Sung, Dark and Intimate] The doctor watched the fingers move. One finger, then another. A twitch beneath the yellow skin. A breath that wasn't human. The eyelids opened. And for the first time in a thousand years, the dead looked back. The doctor stepped away. He wanted to run. He wanted to scream. But the creature reached for him and spoke his name. "Father?" [Pre-Chorus – Whispering, Growing] Who gave me this body? Who gave me these eyes? Who made me a nightmare And taught me to cry? [Chorus – Full Band, Dramatic] Bring him to life! Let the lightning strike! Give the dead a heartbeat, Give the darkness eyes! Bring him to life! Let the heavens cry! He made himself a monster, And now the monster's alive! [Verse 3 – Dark Beatnik Spoken Word] They say a monster is a thing that frightens other men. But tell me, Doctor, who was the monster then? The creature had no childhood. No mother. No name. He learned about love by watching people turn away. He learned about kindness from a world that carried knives. He learned about being human from the men who feared his life. And every time he reached for love, the world reached for a gun. The doctor made a living man, then hated what he'd done. [Bridge – Slow, Haunting Piano and Bass] I did not ask to be created. I did not ask to be born. I did not ask for your ambition. I did not ask to wear your scorn. You gave me hands. You gave me eyes. You gave me breath. You gave me pain. But you forgot to give me someone who would love me just the same. [Instrumental – Thunder, Cello, Distorted Guitar] [Verse 4 – Increasingly Manic Spoken Word] Now the doctor hears him walking In the corridors at night. He sees him in the mirror. He sees him in the candlelight. A shadow at the window. A footprint in the snow. The doctor made a monster, But the monster wants to know: "Why did you make me?" And the doctor has no answer. Only silence. Only guilt. Only the sound of a heart he built. [Final Chorus – Explosive Gothic Rock] You brought him to life! You gave him the night! You gave the dead a heartbeat, You gave the darkness eyes! You brought him to life! Now there's nowhere to hide! You made yourself a monster, And the monster's still alive! [Outro – Spoken Word, Almost Whispered] They found the laboratory empty. The instruments were cold. The lightning had stopped. The doctor was gone. But on the table, written in blood, were four words: "I WAS NEVER ALONE." And somewhere beyond the mountains, beneath a moon without a face, the creature was still walking. Still breathing. Still looking for his father. [Final Sound – Thunderclap, One Heartbeat, Silence]
