[INTRO — sparse, intimate, nearly unaccompanied] I know how easy this is to say. Live like today might be your last. Hold every hug a little longer. Say the words. Take the ride. Make the art. [pause] We’ve heard these things so many times the words have worn smooth. But the hard part was never saying them. [LOW PULSE ENTERS] The hard part is remembering on a Tuesday afternoon. When you’re tired. When you’re irritated. When somebody is talking and you’re only half listening. When tomorrow seems like something you’ve already been promised. [REFRAIN — quiet, deliberate] Be here. While you’re here. [INSTRUMENTAL SPACE] [MOVEMENT I — THE LAST ORDINARY DAY] I’ve lost people in a heartbeat. Others, I watched leave slowly. So yes. I know there will be a last day. A last conversation. A last laugh. A last ordinary moment that nobody recognizes while it’s happening. [pause] But I don’t want to hold you like I’m already losing you. I don’t want every embrace to become a goodbye. I don’t want to spend this life practicing for grief. [BUILD — WARMTH ENTERS] There is still coffee to drink. There are still ridiculous stories to tell beside a fire. There are roads we haven’t taken. Things we haven’t made. People sitting across from us who are still here. [REFRAIN — SLIGHTLY FULLER] Maybe the lesson isn’t to live every day like it’s your last. Maybe it’s simply to stop assuming there will always be another day, another hug, a second chance. [beat] Be here. While you’re here. [LONG INSTRUMENTAL BREATH] [MOVEMENT II — THE THRESHOLD] And when someone we love does leave…the final time. [pause] I don’t know where they go. I don’t know what waits beyond the edge of this. Nobody does. Call it spirit. Call it soul. Call it energy. Call it the life force returning to everything that ever was. Or don’t call it anything. [pause] I only know I have trouble believing that a life can simply become nothing. [MOVEMENT III — WHAT REMAINS] I believe Some of them remains here. In our language. Our habits. The stupid joke we still hear in their voice. The thing they taught us without knowing they were teaching us. The way they changed us just by being here. [quiet] And maybe… something else continues too. [INSTRUMENTAL TRANSITION — OPEN, AIR ENTERS] [MOVEMENT IV — THE DRAGONFLY] There is an old story about a dragonfly. It knows the world beneath the water. That is everything. The whole universe. Until one day… it climbs a reed. [pause] Up. Out. And into something it could never have imagined from below. [INSTRUMENTAL LIFT] The others watch it disappear. They cannot follow. They cannot see what happened next. [REFRAIN II — VERY SPARSE] From beneath the water… it is gone. [pause] But above the water… there is sky. [LONG SILENCE / MUSICAL SUSPENSION] [MOVEMENT V — THE REED] I cannot tell you that this is what death is. I won’t pretend to know. Maybe the story is wrong. Maybe it’s only a story. But when grief gets heavy… sometimes certainty isn’t what we need. Sometimes we just need something strong enough to hold onto. A thought. A possibility. [pause] A reed sticking out of the water. [FINAL BUILD — QUIET, NOT TRIUMPHANT] Maybe you’re the dragonfly. Maybe you’re the one still beneath the surface. Maybe you’re the reed holding somebody else while they climb. Maybe none of that matters. [FINAL REFRAIN — ALMOST UNACCOMPANIED] Maybe all we need to remember is this: Disappearing from one world does not prove there isn’t another. [OUTRO — RETURN TO OPENING SPARSENESS] So live this day. Not because you know it’s the last. [pause] Because it is the one you have. [INSTRUMENTAL TAIL — LONG, SLOW FADE, NO ABRUPT END]
