It’s the study of life, from the dirt to the sky, From the breath in your lungs to the blink of your eye. Don’t let the Latin words make you feel small, It’s just the story of how we’re here at all. Start with the cell, the building block of the soul, A tiny little factory with a massive control. The Nucleus is the boss, the brain in the middle, Holding the DNA, the map to the riddle. The Mitochondria? That’s the powerhouse, the spark, Turning food into energy to keep out the dark. And the Ribosomes are the workers, building the frame, Making the proteins that give you your name. Now, things gotta move, they can't just stay still, Moving in and out of the cell at their will. Diffusion is the easy way, drifting with the flow, From a high to a low where the particles go. But Osmosis is the specialist, the water-only track, Moving through a membrane and never looking back. If the cell needs to fight and move against the tide, That’s Active Transport—using energy inside. Plants are the wizards, the masters of the light, Taking sun and water to make everything right. Photosynthesis happens in the green of the leaf, A chemical reaction that’s beyond belief. They take the Carbon Dioxide and they give us the Air, A trade-off for the planet that shows that they care. While we’re over here doing Respiration in the night, Breaking down the glucose to keep our hearts bright. Think of your body like a high-speed train, With the signals and the wires coming out of your brain. The Central Nervous System, the spine and the head, Reacting to the world before the word can be said. Your Reflexes are the shortcuts, the save-your-life move, A split-second jump to get you out of the groove. And the Hormones are the chemicals, the long-distance mail, Sent through the blood so the systems don't fail. Then there’s the DNA, the double-helix twist, The reason that "you" even happen to exist. Four little letters—A, T, C, and G, The code for your hair and the way that you see. You get half from your Mum and half from your Dad, A mix of the good and the not-so-bad. Natural Selection is the survival of the best, The ones who adapt and pass the ultimate test. So when you’re looking at a leaf or a bone or a vein, Just remember it’s a system, not a source of pain. It’s the most complex machine that the world’s ever seen, And you’re the pilot of the whole thing. Keep it clean.
