[Verse 1] He came in smiling wide With a brand-new shape of rule Said, "Trust me, trust me, trust me" Like a salesman in a suit He painted fear as wisdom Called the broken "necessary" And every hand beside him Clapped like they were getting paid [Pre-Chorus] He said, "Look what I have made" Held it up like gold But the room went quiet When the seams began to show [Chorus] New king, same design Clap if you want to survive New king, same design We can see right through your pride He wears it like a crown But the crowd has turned around New king, same design (We can see right through it) [Verse 2] His inner ring kept laughing At the edges of the room They praised his every bad idea Like it was blooming into truth They fed him shiny phrases And bowed their heads on cue 'Cause favor is a candle And they wanted to stay lit too [Pre-Chorus] He said, "This is what you need" And pointed to the floor But the people read the pattern And they wanted something more [Chorus] New king, same design Clap if you want to survive New king, same design We can see right through your pride He wears it like a crown But the crowd has turned around New king, same design (We can see right through it) [Bridge] Outside the palace windows They're laughing in the rain Not the kind that cheers you on The kind that knows your name He hears it, but he won't hear it So he waves his little flag While the ones he thought were loyal Are already looking back [Final Chorus] New king, same design Clap if you want to survive New king, same design We can see right through your pride He wears it like a crown But the crowd has turned around New king, same design (We can see right through it) (We can see right through it)
