Walls of Pride

O Lord, my God, my strength, my shield, Before Thy throne my soul I yield. Not by the sword, nor mortal might, But by Thy grace I stand and fight. The walls of pride before me rise, The voice of fear, the serpent’s lies. Yet at Thy name the darkness flees, And captive hearts are set at peace. Cast down the thoughts that lead astray, Dispel the shadows of my way. Let every counsel born of sin Be broken by Thy truth within. O Christ, my King, my refuge sure, Make Thou my wounded spirit pure. Take captive every thought of mine, And bend my will to love divine. Where doubt has built its towers high, Let faith arise and fear now die. Where bitterness has bound my heart, Let mercy reign and grace impart. Not flesh and blood my soul shall fight, But powers that turn my heart from light. Thy holy Cross shall be my stay, Thy sacred Word shall guide my way. O Holy Spirit, heavenly flame, Consume the pride that bears my name. Bring every thought beneath Thy reign, And break the chains of earthly gain. The mighty walls begin to fall, As Christ, my Lord, becomes my all. No strength of mine shall win the day, But grace that leads the soul to pray. All glory to the Father be, And to the Son eternally, And to the Spirit, Three in One, Through whom the victory is won. Amen. Amen.
