The Reason We Took This Job
[Verse 1] "Hey, wait," she called after him, and put the manual down, "I'm coming, just,... ouch,... give me a sec." "No hurry, don't hurt your knee," came his voice from somewhere down the corridor. She let go of the rail, expecting to drop through the hatch, but instead just floated, there was no gravity in the corridor. Grabbing onto the nearest object, she started guiding herself through the ship. [Verse 2] So much for how he snuck up on her. It was easy to get around this way. "Hey," she didn't want to call him Spook, "what happened to gravity?" "It appears," came his overly calm voice from ahead, "that one of your buddies somehow shut it off." "How?" "That's what we're going to find out." [Verse 3] She didn't like talking to a disembodied voice. The last one gave her a headache. "Hey," she called out, "where are you?" "Right here," the voice was right by her ear, when he smiled at her, she jerked away and hit her head on the bulkhead beside her. "Don't do that!" she scolded, "it hurts." "Don't do what?" he gave her an innocent look, could he possibly be that sneaky and not realize it? [Verse 4] His expression changed, he grabbed the bulkhead and planted his feet. "Get your feet under you..." He didn't get to finish what he was saying. Suddenly a sickening sense of falling swept over Jesse, The corridor raced up to her. It didn't quite make it though. She felt a hand grab her arm and only her knees hit the floor. She closed her eyes and whimpered. [Verse 5] "Are you alright?" Spook was asking her, "how's your knee?" She got her feet under her, putting some weight on her knee. It held up with just a little pain. Then she realized something. "How do you know about my knee?" " Hard to miss, You've favored it since you came aboard," he was still holding one of her arms, giving just enough support, "That and it was mentioned on your termination notice." . . . "You were the reason we took this job."
