Bedroom Museum

V5.5

--- Slowing it down quite a bit and using a "Music Box" as the primary instrument for the song. Since the person is a mix of male and female vocals, it was a bit tricky to try and get the song to just extract out the female vocals. Managed to get it about 95% of the time, so going to call that a win. Idea is about returning to your childhood bedroom after your first semester of college and seeing that it has been kept as a Museum by your parents. This leads to a mix of emotions about seeing your past preserved, but not really feeling like you're a part of it anymore. The memories of the times in that room and the events that surround what has been placed on the shelf feel a bit more distance and not really a part of your current self. Seeing it also makes you realize that your parents might not be quite ready to move on and accept the changes that are going on either. Pacing was really nice with this one, and I was quite happy with the overall music box vibe from it. Had to play with the adjustment dials quite a bit to get the song where I wanted, but overall, pretty happy with the results. Do wish I could have gotten the music box winding up sound at the start though. I suppose I could put in some sort of sound effect in audacity post download if I really wanted . . . ~David --- [Sound Effects of a Music Box being wound up] [Musical Introduction] [Soft music box melody… delicate, slightly imperfect… gentle room ambiance] [Verse 1] [Female Vocals - Sequel – intimate, observant] Door creaks open like it knows my name But everything inside feels… rearranged Not the walls or the books or the floor Just the feeling I had here before [Female Vocals - Sequel – intimate, observant] Posters hang like they’re holding their breath Frozen smiles I don’t recognize yet There’s a version of me in this place… But I don’t quite fit in her space [Pre-Chorus - Female Vocals] The air stands still like it always did… But I’m not who I was as a kid [Chorus - Female Vocals] [fragile, reflective] This room’s a bedroom museum Every memory perfectly placed Like the moment I left never happened Like time didn’t move while I changed [Female Vocals] Music box spinning in circles Same little world on display Everything here stays the same… But I don’t feel that way [Verse 2] [Female Vocals - Sequel - slightly wider perspective] Closet still holds every version I tried Old identities neatly inside Notes in drawers I forgot that I wrote Dreams I underlined, words that I hoped [Female Vocals - Sequel - slightly wider perspective] Down the hall I hear voices the same Same routines, same end-of-day And it hits me soft, then it lands… They’ve been holding this just like I have [Pre-Chorus - Female Vocals] Maybe I’m not the only one… Still adjusting to who I’ve become [Chorus - Female Vocals] [deeper, more emotional] This room’s a bedroom museum Every shelf tells a story I knew But the person who lived in these moments… Is someone I outgrew [Female Vocals] Music box turning so slowly Figure still learning to stay Spinning inside of a memory… That I’m drifting away from each day [Musical Interlude] [Music box melody isolated → soft piano joins → faint bass swells like a distant heartbeat] [Music Solo] [Bridge] [Female Vocals - Sequel – tender realization] Maybe they kept it like this… for me In case I needed somewhere to be [Female Vocals - Sequel – tender realization] Somewhere unchanged, untouched by time A place where I could still rewind [soft breath] [Female Vocals - Sequel – tender realization] But I can’t live in what I’ve outgrown… Even if it still feels like home [Final Chorus] [Female Vocals - Sequel - quiet acceptance] This room’s a bedroom museum Not a place I’m meant to stay Just a map of who I’ve been… And the steps that led away [Female Vocals - Sequel - quiet acceptance] Music box still softly playing Figure spins, but I don’t I can love what I remember… And still learn to let it go [Outro] [bare, fading] [music box alone again] [Female Vocals - Whispered] Close the door… gently this time [soft click… melody continues briefly, then slows and fades] [Musical Ending]
