[Verse 1] I found them in the loam Under a rain-dark stone Small pale crowns Trembling in my hand I said, "Show me the shape Before the shape begins" And the room split open Like a seed in my palm [Pre-Chorus] Oh, I felt the first color Move through my bones Oh, I watched the dark Turn into a road [Chorus] First mushroom dawn First mushroom dawn I saw it all at once First mushroom dawn I bent the sky for lions I gave the river its tongue First mushroom dawn And the world kept coming on [Verse 2] I laughed with a thousand mouths At the edge of a fern I traced a ant in gold Then let it learn to turn I made the deer too gentle Then I gave it a leap I painted teeth and feathers From the echo of the deep [Pre-Chorus] Oh, the tree line breathed Like a sleeping choir Oh, every jaw and wing Came out of the fire [Chorus] First mushroom dawn First mushroom dawn I saw it all at once First mushroom dawn I bent the sky for lions I gave the river its tongue First mushroom dawn And the world kept coming on [Bridge] I had plans of thunder But the vision made me grin I chose the shell, the claw, the bloom I let the wildness in No throne could hold that wonder No silence could stay clean So I planted every riot In the soil between my dreams [Final Chorus] First mushroom dawn First mushroom dawn I saw it all at once First mushroom dawn I gave the owl its shadow I taught the frog to spring First mushroom dawn And I made the whole earth sing First mushroom dawn First mushroom dawn I saw it all at once First mushroom dawn
