I Can Break When You're Done
[IMMEDIATE ASSAULT — brutally low syncopated djent riff, huge drums and grinding melodic bass; an aching high guitar melody is buried inside the distortion] [Agonized melodic singing — strained and cracked but completely intelligible] Don't ask if I'm tired. I'll tell you I'm fine. Give me what you're carrying. I'll add it to mine. Tell me you're frightened. I'll tell you, "Don't run." I'll hold myself together. I can break when you're done. [RIFF CONTINUES — no transition into a separate section; drums become more intricate underneath the same harmonic movement] You need me steady. I'll steady my hands. You need an answer. I'll make up a plan. You need somewhere that doesn't come undone. So give me your sorrow. I can break when you're done. [High guitar melody climbs while rhythm guitars remain brutally heavy] I CAN BREAK WHEN YOU'RE DONE. I CAN BLEED WHEN YOU'RE GONE. I CAN COME FUCKING APART WHEN THERE'S NOBODY HOLDING ON. BUT RIGHT NOW YOU NEED ME. SO RIGHT NOW I'M THE ONE WHO DOESN'T GET TO FALL YET. I CAN BREAK WHEN YOU'RE DONE. [Technical instrumental — relentless low riffing with expressive lead guitar; bass moves melodically rather than simply doubling guitars] [Voice returns lower and exhausted, still sung] Funny how strong starts looking like numb. Funny how "later" eventually becomes another damn morning, another damn sun, another good reason I can't come undone. [Drums hammer into a relentless forward-driving groove] There isn't a finish. There isn't a turn. There's always another small fire to burn. There's always somebody who needs what I've got. So I give them the pieces and keep what I'm not. [Agonized high melodic vocal over maximum-weight instrumentation] I CAN BREAK WHEN YOU'RE DONE. JUST TELL ME WHEN THAT IS. TELL ME WHEN EVERYBODY STOPS NEEDING ME LIKE THIS. TELL ME WHEN I GET A MINUTE. TELL ME WHEN I GET ONE. TELL ME WHEN IT'S FINALLY MY FUCKING TURN. [Instrumental — band remains brutally heavy; lead guitar plays an unexpectedly beautiful melody over the crushing rhythm] [Voice cracks badly but stays melodic] I had something to tell you. I forgot what it was. Probably didn't matter. Nothing of mine does. [Brief vocal break] No. That's not fair. [Strained singing] It matters to me. [The riff seems to stumble, then catches itself] But somebody needs me. So— let it be. [Relentless final movement — not a breakdown; the main djent groove becomes increasingly dense while the vocal melody becomes more desperate] I can break when you're better. I can break when you're safe. I can break when tomorrow finally gives me a place. I can break when you're happy. I can break when you've won. I can break— I can break— I can— [Music keeps driving] [Agonized scream, fully intelligible] **WHEN THE FUCK ARE YOU DONE?** [The band does NOT stop; instrumental continues underneath ragged breathing] [Quietly sung over the brutal riff] Sorry. Forget it. I'm fine. [Long instrumental — beautiful lead guitar continues over relentless crushing djent; no resolution]
