[Verse 1] Dashboard glow on your cheek Gas station coffee gone weak You laughed, said, “let’s not go home” So we kept chasing that road Tires singing on the blacktop Your hand on the wheel, don’t stop Mile markers blurred like smoke And your name stayed in my throat [Pre-Chorus] We were running on half a tank And a half-broken heart But the moon kept time And the dark fell apart [Chorus] Midnight highway, take me there Midnight highway, like you care We can outrun the dawn If we keep moving on Midnight highway, hold me close Midnight highway, don’t let go When the whole world fades away It’s you and me and the midnight highway [Verse 2] Exit signs like falling stars We made a map from old scars Your smile cut through the noise Like a radio playing our song Got a little dust on my jeans A little hope in-between I don’t need a destination I just need your conversation [Pre-Chorus] We were running on half a tank And a half-broken heart But the moon kept time And the dark fell apart [Chorus] Midnight highway, take me there Midnight highway, like you care We can outrun the dawn If we keep moving on Midnight highway, hold me close Midnight highway, don’t let go When the whole world fades away It’s you and me and the midnight highway [Bridge] If we get lost, let us If we break down, stay tough I’d still follow that bend With your hand in my hand [Final Chorus] Midnight highway, take me there Midnight highway, like you care We can outrun the dawn If we keep moving on Midnight highway, hold me close Midnight highway, don’t let go When the whole world fades away It’s you and me and the midnight highway
