Ghosts by Rebel Jones (Remix) (Remastered)
[Intro: A low, ominous church organ swells softly. The sound of freezing winter wind passes through, joined by a slow, heavy, grinding bass guitar riff and a distant, echoing rim-shot on the drums] [Low, dramatic spoken baritone, echoing in a dark cavernous space] Ghosts... The history of a haunting. Part One: The voice in the vent. [Verse 1] [Slow, deliberate rhythmic delivery, riding a cold, dragging drum march] I sat one eve with my ear to the vent in my dark abode, Where I have been blanketed with a ghostly cold, No matter how many logs I threw upon the fire. The heat from the flame did not exist, as every breath I saw dispersed, From my lips faded away into the midnight's air. There was an eerie feel upon my skin, as if invisible fingers ran lightly down my neck and arms. I was so frightened here but could not move. Discomfort and curiosity had me stuck in a situation that I knew I should not test, But indeed I did progress further forward... And the current eeriness brought spells of unclean feels within me. [Verse 2] [The church organ swells with maximum distortion, a heavy double-bass drum pedal begins to roll slow] A voice spoke out, followed by unexplainable laughter of a child's tone, That became a snarled growl! What beast was this? What wickedness was I among? What evil lurked unseen but heard? I could not quite be sure. The feeling of tingles beneath my skin, and as if someone was breathing rapidly on my neck, Sent a pulse of discomfort... a turning in my stomach. I could not move. Paralyzed from fear, my mind was stuck too, Without ideas or plans of what I could possibly do to escape what was surely to come next, As the voice in the vent, in the wall beside me, became even louder, As the sounds of wicked laughter followed by a twisted chant... [Bridge: The music drops to a dead-stop silence, leaving only a dark, vibrating bass frequency] [Voice 2 - The Vent: Deep, gravelly, menacing supernatural growl] "You will join this night, the voices here that linger... from the lost and dead." [Verse 3] [Voice 1 - Rebel: High-conviction, aggressive delivery as massive, crushing down-tuned distorted metal guitars crash in hard with heavy stadium drums] It was from this point I felt a tight choking, As invisible fingers squeezed slowly with incredible force around my neck! And my body crumpled... following my final breath. I wouldn't say this place I am is peaceful rest, But on the contrary, I'm in a place of dark despair and eternal sadness, As a restless ghost with nowhere to be, and nothing more to do, But be here to haunt the memories... of those of you who knew. [Guitar Breakdown: Heavy, slow, melodic down-tuned electric guitar solo wails over a crushing gothic metal rhythm, capturing the agony of the spirit] [Verse 4] [The heavy distortion drops away completely, replaced by a dark, melancholic acoustic guitar loop and slow, sweeping symphonic strings] [Smooth, mournful, late-night baritone flow] Part Two: Him. I placed a taste of my lips to hers, as I stole a kiss on a whim to her surprise, A look of shock showed sparks of a million arms of electricity shooting throughout her eyes. She knew not whom I was, but only knew that I was him. Him she would never forget, yet I am him she cannot, and never will be able to optically or physically see me. I am him whom she would never know. I am him whom would forever leave an imprint in her mind and a memory in her life, With a painful void in her heart... And for me, I disappeared like a mist in the night, never to be felt again. [Chorus: Epic, soaring operatic symphonic string arrangement builds to a tragic peak] How does time, life, and mortality connect us... After death... and a whole lifetime? [Verse 5] [Low, sorrowful, conversational delivery over a lone acoustic bass and soft string drone] Part Three: Tragically Her. She reached her fingers out to brush me as I passed, But her ghostly hand could not touch me like she had while alive in the past. I pity her... For what sadness to not possess what you wish you had, When it is in your very grasp. [Outro: The music strips down to a lone, solitary cello note. The cold winter wind returns, fading slowly into absolute darkness] [Low, intimate spoken word whisper] In your very grasp. Just a mist in the night. Time... life... and mortality. Rebel P. Jones. [The cello note sustains, fades down, and cuts to hard silence] [End]
