Exanimis Dolor - There Is No One Coming

+ Show full styles

Black clouds descend upon the fields, where winter strips the branches bare. The dying earth lies cold beneath me, and nothing stirs within the air. I watch the distant road grow darker, until the road is nowhere at all. The years have gathered like a burial mound, each one laid heavy upon the last. I have carried their weight in silence, beneath the ruins of everything passed. What little hope survived the seasons now rots among the autumn leaves. There is no one coming. There is no one beyond the night. There is no one coming. No hand will reach through the dying light. The bells have rusted in their towers, the rope hangs motionless below. No mourning sound disturbs the valley, no footsteps cross the fallen snow. Only crows remain as witnesses, black shapes circling what remains. The road has vanished beneath the darkness, the horizon drowned beneath the rain. Every distant light has disappeared, every prayer has decayed into pain. I have waited until waiting became sorrow, I have suffered until suffering became my name. There is no one coming. There is no one beyond the night. There is no one coming. No hand will reach through the dying light. The grave does not wait beneath me, the grave has followed all my life. It grew within each empty morning, it fed upon every dying light. Now I hear the soil above me, though my body still walks beneath the sky. Let the winter bury the pathway, let the weeds consume the stone. Let the black rain drown the distance, let the carrion strip me to the bone. There is nothing left upon the horizon, there is nothing left to wait upon. There is no one coming. There is no one beyond the night. There is no one coming. No hand will reach through the dying light. I watched for something in the distance, until the darkness took my sight. I waited for something to find me, until the waiting consumed my life…
