Weight Of A Year
It’s that season again, roads gone white, ice singing under tired tires. Snowfall quilts the town in hush, chimneys exhale their towers of smoke . Yuletide gay, the old warmth hums, harmonies climb the dark, auroras wrap the sky like the breath of stars. This is the way. It’s Christmas a joy in giving to the ones you hold close. Merry Christmas, happy holidays, what a beautiful weight of a year. Little boys, little girls, eyes wide, sun kissing the sky. Presents shine under pine and lights. Snowmen crowd the playground, top hats crooked, proud. Child-wonder sparks alive again, a season remembering how to feel. Snow forts rise, elf-kingdoms stand, the reindeer pitter patter on roofs. I’d never trade this way. It’s Christmas, a joy in giving to the ones you hold close. Merry Christmas, happy holidays, what a beautiful weight of a year. Here I stay, inside this abode of love. in the quiet i reside I let the red cool beneath my skin, leave it out with the ice. With you, a soft landing at year’s end. Blessings, grace, stillness, the light that warming the ribs. the breath in the chest. Ho ho… what a year it’s been. It’s Christmas! Merry Christmas, happy holidays, what a beautiful weight of a year. Merry Christmas, happy holidays. Snow settles. Breath slows. Happy New Year.
