Opening Credits, Double Time - 03 - Walking The Tidal Road
[Intro] [one stacked vocal syllable, dry, no music] Do-va. [Verse 1] [staccato bass ostinato enters] [sustained top note holds above it] The board at the top of the lane says when it goes under. We read it twice and then we put the bags across our backs. There's a line of us out there already, small against the flat, and the water is a long way off and coming up the tracks. [Round] [three vocal layers enter a beat apart] Do-va-ley. Do-va. (walk it, walk it) Do-va-ley. Do-va. (and the sand comes up) [Verse 2] [supersaw stabs enter on the offbeat] Halfway out the mud goes hard and everybody speeds. The island has a light on and it wasn't on before. Somebody at the front of us begins the thing we sing, and by the time it reaches me there's half of us at the door. [Round] [a fourth voice joins an octave up] Do-va-ley. Do-va. (step it out) Do-va-ley. Do-va. (the light's on now) [Bridge] [bass drops to a single moving line, top note holds] [voice: female, bright, close, unstacked] The board was right. It always is. [Verse 3] [kick replaced by open toms, same energy] We got across with room to spare and stood there getting warm. The road went under quiet like it always said it would. The last ones came up laughing with their trousers to the knee, and the island took us in the way an island always should. [Final Round] [all voices together, claps double] Do-va-ley. Do-va. (we're across) Do-va-ley. Do-va. (across, across) [Outro] [round unstacks to one voice and slows] [resonance tail]
