Cathedral of Steel

STUDIO

The vinyl bin, a graveyard of my youth Flipping through the skeletons, searching for the truth Leather, studs, and long-haired freaks in poses While outside, every door was shut and frozen I saw the mirror in the guys around the rack Acne-scarred and lonely, keeping off the track Ugliness was our uniform, a brotherhood of none Waiting for the needle-drop, the firing of the gun. And the steel storm raged, it blew the pain away The only light I found inside the gray A thunderstorm of circuits, drowning out the lies My inner freedom, born in metal cries. I remember lying sick, the fever in my bones Hell’s Bells began to toll through the radio’s monologues Stereo-impact, left and right, a sonic heart attack It pulled me from the sofa, there was no turning back A purely aural orgasm, a ritual within Electric fire burning underneath my paper skin I shook my head until the world began to spin I wanted to be them, the gods upon the sleeves But the ghost of my father never grants reprieves. "Cut your hair, boy," he’d sneer across the plate Feeding me his mockery, serving up his hate I was a prisoner of the classroom, a victim of the sneer Between the walls of school and the silence of my fear No girl to hold my hand, no place to call my home Just a Vivaldi of distortion, whenever I’m alone. But when the track began, the fortress walls would rise I didn't care for insults or their hollow, judgmental eyes The louder it became, the more I was invincible and free In that steel cathedral, I found the man I'm meant to be. Inner freedom. Steel storm. Invincible.
