FRANK 002 – The Giant on the Ice | Frankenstein

(Verse 1) The frozen sea lay silent under curtains pale and white, While mast and rope stood motionless beneath the fading light. Then through the drifting distance rose a figure vast and lone, A giant driving northward through a wilderness of stone. (Verse 2) The sailors watched his sledge advance across the broken plain, Then vanish where the closing mist concealed the track again. No mortal shape seemed fitted to the stature they had seen, A shadow drawn through polar frost where no road lay between. (Chorus) The giant crossed the ice field where the wind erased his trail, A darkened form against the snow, immense and strange and pale. He passed beyond their knowledge through the cold uncharted night, And left the crew to wonder at the horror of the sight. (Verse 3) The following dawn another sledge came drifting near their side, Its dogs lay spent and frozen where the fractured currents sighed. A single man remained alive upon the failing frame, Still asking where the giant went before he gave his name. (Verse 4) They raised him from the ruin with his clothing stiff with frost, A traveller worn hollow by the thing that he had lost. He would not leave the drifting ice until their course was known, For northward lay the only path his ruined heart had shown. (Chorus) The giant crossed the ice field where the wind erased his trail, A darkened form against the snow, immense and strange and pale. He passed beyond their knowledge through the cold uncharted night, And left the crew to wonder at the horror of the sight. (Bridge) One shape fled through the distance while another followed near, The first a moving mystery, the second bound by fear. Between them stretched a history the sailors could not know, A chain of life and vengeance drawn across the endless snow. (Outro) So still the giant travelled where the northern darkness spread, While close behind a broken man pursued the path he led. The ship became the meeting place of hunter, tale, and doom, As Arctic silence gathered like the closing of a tomb.
