[Verse 1] All the earth spoke one tongue, one sound, Words the same the world around. As they journeyed east they found a plain, In Shinar’s land, they built and dreamed again. “Come,” they said, “let’s make us bricks, Burn them strong, so they won’t break quick. With tar for mortar, bricks for stone, We’ll build a city all our own.” [Chorus] Tower to the sky, name lifted high, So we won’t be scattered far and wide. But Heaven looked down, and God did sigh, “What man can dream, he’ll surely try.” [Verse 2] The Lord came down to see their pride, The city and tower they raised so high. And He said, “Behold, they are one, One language binds them, what’s begun Will lead them far, there’s no divide— Now nothing they plan will be denied.” [Chorus] Tower to the sky, name lifted high, So we won’t be scattered far and wide. But Heaven looked down, and God did sigh, “What man can dream, he’ll surely try.” [Bridge] So He confused their speech that day, Their tongues were turned, their words astray. They stopped their building, hearts undone, And Babel’s name was born from one. [Chorus – Reprise] Tower to the sky, name lifted high, But pride was scattered to every side. From Babel’s ground the nations cried, And the dream of one world slowly died. [Outro] From Shem to Arphaxad the line was born, Generations rising with each dawn. Eber, Peleg, Reu, and Serug’s days, Families scattered in their ways. Nahor, Terah, names of old, Fathers of faith in stories told. From Terah’s house, a son would stand, Abram, chosen from the land. From Ur of the Chaldees came the sound, A whisper holy, deep and profound: “Leave your father’s home behind, Seek the promise you will find.” Not a tower built of clay and flame, But a covenant sealed in God’s own name. Not man’s glory reaching high, But faith beneath an open sky. (Soft Refrain) From Babel’s fall to Abram’s call, The heart of man still yearns through it all. Not to build a name of stone and pride, But to walk with God, and be justified.
