Genesis Chapter 20 (Main)

V5

[Verse 1] Abraham journeyed down to Gerar’s land, Spoke of Sarah, “She’s my sister,” by his plan. Abimeleck, the king, took her to his side, But the Lord came in a dream that night. [Pre-Chorus] He said, “You are a dead man if you dare, For the woman you took is another man’s care.” Abimeleck cried, “Lord, would You slay the just? I did not touch her, I acted in trust!” [Chorus] But God said, “Yes, I know your heart was true, That’s why I kept her far from you. Now return the man his wife today, For he’s a prophet — let him pray. And you shall live, if you obey, But if you don’t, your soul will pay.” [Verse 2] Early morning light, the king gathered his men, Told them the dream again and again. Fear fell heavy on every face, For the hand of the Lord was on that place. [Pre-Chorus] Abimeleck said, “Why’d you do this to me? What sin have I done, what guilt do you see? You’ve brought great danger to my land — Tell me the truth, help me understand.” [Chorus] And Abraham said, “I thought there’s no fear, That none would honor God’s word here. She is my sister, my father’s line, Yet my wife through promise divine. From place to place, I made this vow, ‘Say you’re my sister,’ to keep me now.” [Bridge] Then Abimeleck gave oxen, sheep, and gold, Returned Sarah, his heart made whole. He said, “My land lies open wide, Dwell wherever you would abide.” To Sarah he said, “A thousand silver’s yours, A witness pure, your name restores.” [Chorus – Reprise] Then Abraham prayed, and God drew near, Healing the wombs once closed in fear. For the Lord had sealed them tight before, Till Sarah was given back once more. [Outro] God kept the promise safe that day, Guiding truth through fear’s dark way. From Gerar’s gate to desert sand, His mercy moved through every hand.
