TIME 006 – Eight Hundred and Two Thousand Years | The Time Machine

(Verse 1) The Traveller pulled hard upon the lever of the frame, And sudden violence hurled him from the current whence he came. The rushing world stood motionless beneath a quiet sky, As eight long hundred thousand years had thundered swiftly by. (Verse 2) He rose among the greenery beneath a golden sun, And knew the unimaginable journey now was done. No London street surrounded him, no chimney scarred the air, But gardens spread in silence through a world both strange and fair. (Chorus) Eight hundred and two thousand years had vanished in his flight, And all that he remembered had been swallowed by the night. He stood beyond his century where nothing seemed the same, A stranger at the ending of the ages whence he came. (Verse 3) Above him loomed a giant Sphinx of marble ghostly white, Its silent face looked outward in the soft declining light. Upon its mighty pedestal the ancient creature lay, A monument to secrets from a world long swept away. (Verse 4) Around the Sphinx grew blossoms in a warm and fertile land, While distant structures shimmered where no city seemed to stand. The air was mild and fragrant and the silence deep and green, As though the earth had softened into something half serene. (Chorus) Eight hundred and two thousand years had vanished in his flight, And all that he remembered had been swallowed by the night. He stood beyond his century where nothing seemed the same, A stranger at the ending of the ages whence he came. (Bridge) The number on the dials declared the distance he had flown, Eight hundred two thousand seven hundred one had shown. The future lay before him underneath that tranquil sphere, And wonder walked beside him with the shadow cast by fear. (Outro) He faced the White Sphinx silently beneath the fading gold, And wondered what forgotten truths its sightless eyes might hold. Behind him slept the engine that had crossed the gulf of years, Before him waited mankind with its mysteries and fears.
