“I Keep Waking Up”

Verse 1 She does not want this life anymore. Not the morning. Not the weight. Not the next day waiting at the door. She has thought, too many times, about never having to wake again, about a sleep that does not end, about a quiet that stays. But every time the dark takes her, the light still finds her. She opens her eyes. She is still here. Chorus 1 She does not want to live. She says it to the ceiling like a prayer that no one answers. She planned a dozen ways to never rise again, and still the morning came and made her stay. When she finally sleeps, the nightmares start, worse than the day, worse than the empty room. She cannot rest. She cannot leave. She only wakes. Verse 2 The hours between midnight and dawn are the longest thing she has ever carried. She lies still and begs the night to keep her, to be kinder than the sun. It never is. She wakes with her heart still beating, her body still heavy, her life still unfinished in the worst way. No peace in sleep. No peace in waking. Only the same gray room. Chorus 2 She does not want to live. The thought sits in her chest like a stone she cannot put down. She has turned the same ending over in her mind until the edges went dull, and still she woke. And when she sleeps, the nightmares come, chasing her through rooms she cannot leave. She cannot rest. She cannot go. She only wakes. Verse 3 There is no comfort in surviving another night. There is only the shame of still being here, the exhaustion of a body that will not stop, a mind that will not quiet. She wanted the last sleep. She got another morning instead. And the dreams that follow her down are only more of the same life wearing a darker face. Bridge If sleep is supposed to be mercy, it lied to her. If morning is supposed to be a second chance, it feels like a sentence. She whispers into the pillow: “Please. Not again.” The room does not answer. The day begins anyway. Chorus 3 She does not want to live. She has thought of every way to never wake, and every time the world brought her back like it did not hear her. When she sleeps, the nightmares find her first. When she wakes, the emptiness finds her next. There is no safe place left, not in the dark, not in the light. She cannot rest. She cannot leave. She only wakes. Again..... Again.... Again. Outro The alarm does not ring. She wakes anyway. The nightmares fade. The day does not. And she is still here, against her will.
