Thinking back to when I was just a young teen, A man entered my life, showed me what i’d never seen, He opened his arms brought me in, said I LOVE YOU I always dreamed of this, now it’s finally come true, I grew up knowing my Grandpa as my Grandpa-Dad He made sure I played sports that gave me the skill that I have, My Step-up Dad took me out on the water and showed me the ways, Vivid memories burned into my brain of those days, My step-up dad was always a good man Heart full of gold, gave everything he had nice to my mom, put a smile on her face Every time I’d see him would put a smile on my face he’s everything I ever wanted in a dad, He was my step-up Dad Then out of nowhere I let a demon inside, Figured it was best if I’d just run off n hide, I put him n my mother through sheer hell, sorry mom you did right by me I was just an asshole, On the streets, bumming couches and places to sleep, Out of touch on the path of darkness I was in deep, I struggled and became an addict it was bad In and out of jail, dependent on the high thinking that’s the kind of fun I wanted to have, But, No more, I kept it clean and I sobered my ass up, My step-up dad was always a good man Heart full of gold, gave everything he had nice to my mom, put a smile on her face Every time I’d see him would put a smile on my face he’s everything I ever wanted in a dad, He was my step-up Dad Now I am happily married to the love of my life, Think about where I came from now I have a wife, My Step-up Dad was always there for us, never questioned anything he would just come in a rush, We became best friends and grew together strong, Now I’m not afraid to hear if I was doing wrong, He was tough when he had to be, Soft when he had to be Held me up when I had to be…. My step-up dad was always a dad to me! Then….. Sadness filled our lives when he passed on that night, Nothing made sense for anyone, this ain’t right! He was always a good man, Never a bad man, Always the man he never had to be, I never had to ask him to be who he was to me He was always the dad, That I dreamed I would have. I miss my Step-up Dad...... Love you dad.
