FRANK 028 – The Body of Henry Clerval | Frankenstein
(Verse 1) The restless sea had carried him unwilling to the shore, Still haunted by the burden he had cast away before. The strangers seized the traveller and spoke of murder’s blame, Then led him towards the magistrate who questioned him by name. (Verse 2) They said a man was murdered upon the previous night, And witnesses had seen a boat departing from the site. Then Victor faced the chamber where they kept the unknown dead, And every spark of reason vanished into dread. (Chorus) There lay his faithful Henry, the truest of his friends, Another life extinguished where the Creature’s vengeance ends. The marks around his throat proclaimed the manner of his death, And Victor broke beside him as grief consumed his breath. (Verse 3) The face that once knew wonder lay silent, pale and cold, The friend who crossed through England and dreamed of worlds untold. He kissed the lifeless features and called his name in pain, While guilt and fever seized him and overwhelmed his brain. (Verse 4) They carried Victor senseless into the prison gloom, Where Henry’s murdered image returned within the room. He knew the hand that struck him had answered broken trust, And every friend he cherished might follow into dust. (Chorus) There lay his faithful Henry, the truest of his friends, Another life extinguished where the Creature’s vengeance ends. The marks around his throat proclaimed the manner of his death, And Victor broke beside him as grief consumed his breath. (Bridge) The vow destroyed on Orkney had travelled through the rain, And found the heart of friendship to answer Victor’s chain. He thought the wedding warning reserved his final doom, Yet vengeance reached another and left him in the gloom. (Outro) The Irish sea kept pounding beyond the prison stone, While Victor mourned the companion he once had called his own. The path towards the wedding grew darker with the night, For everyone he cherished now stood within its sight.
