[Verse 1] Deep in the pines where the moss goes black They hang on the briars and they never come back Tiny cruel grins in the fern-bed gloom With teeth like thorns and breath like a tomb They steal your name from the edge of sleep Leave a cold little mark where the shadows creep [Pre-Chorus] Hear them giggle low behind the bark Counting your steps in the dark, in the dark They know your fear like a song by heart Pulling you in then they tear you apart [Chorus] Thornbone fairies bad little fairies living in the trees Thornbone fairies sweet on the surface hard to please (thornbone fairies) [Verse 2] They braid dead grass into crooked crowns They drink moon-sour juice from hollowed-out grounds Leave mud on your tongue and needles in your hair A kiss at your throat and a grin that stares If you hear them call don’t answer twice They'll lead you deeper through the root and ice 'Cause they dance in circles around your bones And they own that woods like they own your home [Pre-Chorus] Hear them giggle low behind the bark Counting your steps in the dark, in the dark They know your fear like a song by heart Pulling you in then they tear you apart [Chorus] Thornbone fairies bad little fairies living in the trees Thornbone fairies sweet on the surface hard to please (thornbone fairies) [Bridge] If you see the lantern made of firefly skin Run for the path and don’t look in 'Cause one small glance and you’re under their spell Lost in the hush of the foxglove dell [Final Chorus] Thornbone fairies bad little fairies living in the trees Thornbone fairies sweet on the surface hard to please Thornbone fairies bad little fairies they’ll ruin you with ease Thornbone fairies smiling through the poison leave you on your knees (thornbone fairies)
