The Wheelwright & the Cartwright’s Song v.2

Irish Pub Songs and Sea Shanties, male vocals, with hand clapping and foot stomping

(Chorus)
So round and round the wheel shall go, upon the cartwright’s frame,
The wheelwright shapes the sturdy spokes; together, they earn fame!
With oak and ash, their craft endures to keep the world in motion,
The wheelwright and the cartwright’s trade deserve our full devotion!

(Verse 2 )
The wheelwright starts with seasoned wood, well-cured by time and care,
He cuts the felloe into arcs to form a circle fair.
The hub is turned upon his lathe; each spoke is fit with pride,
And iron bands are heated hot to bind it all with stride.

(Chorus)
So round and round the wheel shall go, upon the cartwright’s frame,
The wheelwright shapes the sturdy spokes; together, they earn fame!
With oak and ash, their craft endures to keep the world in motion,
The wheelwright and the cartwright’s trade deserve our full devotion!

(Verse 3 )
Now here’s to young apprentices who learn their noble trade,
They carve and plane with steady hands through long days in the shade.
From mortise cuts to spoke-shave art, they master every tool,
For patience builds a craftsman’s skill—it’s not a trade for fools.

[Bridge (slower tempo)]
Oh, the cartwright takes that finished wheel and sets it in its place,
He builds the shafts and sturdy bed with measured skill and grace.
From farmer’s cart to merchant’s load or buggy fine for gentry,
Their work has shaped both town and road across this wide old country.

(Verse 4)
The adze will carve; the plane will smooth; the auger bores with care,
Each joint is pegged or bound with glue—no shortcuts taken there!
Together they bring forth a craft that serves both man and beast—
From plowman’s fields to city streets or anywhere in east.

[Chorus (repeat twice)]
So round and round the wheel shall go, upon the cartwright’s frame,
The wheelwright shapes the sturdy spokes; together, they earn fame!
With oak and ash, their craft endures to keep the world in motion,
The wheelwright and the cartwright’s trade deserve our full devotion!

[Outro (Spoken or Sung Slowly)]
So here’s a toast to honest work that keeps us rolling free—
To those who shape both wood and steel for all eternity!

(Verse 1) Oh, come ye lads and lasses near, and raise a rousing cheer, For the wheelwright and the cartwright’s craft, the trades we hold so dear! With steady hands and sharpened tools, they shape both wood and steel, And every road we wander on rolls forth upon their wheel. (Chorus) So round and round the wheel shall go, upon the cartwright’s frame, The wheelwright shapes the sturdy spokes; together, they earn fame! With oak and ash, their craft endures to keep the world in motion, The wheelwright and the cartwright’s trade deserve our full devotion!
