The wood of the ship groaned beneath the endless assault of the waves while a cold wind filled the heavy sails bearing the royal colors of Norway. The crew had slowly adapted to the rhythm of the voyage, yet something in the air felt different now. Heavier. Oppressive. At the front of the ship, Skörta stood motionless near the helm, staring at the horizon with unsettling focus. Helena remained beside her with crossed arms, visibly irritated. “We’re drifting too far north,” Helena said while studying the currents. “If the wind keeps turning like this, we’ll end up smashing into reefs.” The queen did not even look away from the horizon. “No.” Helena exhaled sharply. “You know, ‘no’ is not exactly an explanation.” Skörta finally turned her dark eyes toward her. “And yet it is the correct answer.” Helena rolled her eyes before pointing toward the thickening clouds. “Even Torstein thinks we should correct the course. How exactly are you guiding us without instruments? Instinct?” A faint smile appeared on the queen’s face, discreet but proud. “That is why I am queen.” Helena stared at her for a moment before letting out a nervous laugh. “You are unbearable sometimes.” “And you ask too many questions.” Despite herself, Helena smiled slightly. But Skörta’s expression quickly became serious again. “Trust me. I know where I’m going.” There was something strange in the way she said it. A cold certainty. As though the queen was following a path invisible to everyone else. Further along the deck, Mikell Skar quietly observed the exchange with his usual ambiguous smile. Johannes was helping the sailors tighten the ropes while Bruno awkwardly moved from one side of the ship to the other, trying to make himself useful. Then night came. And with it... the storm. The sky exploded with a monstrous roar. An enormous wave slammed into the side of the drakkar with such violence that several sailors were thrown to the deck. “TO THE ROPES!” Torstein shouted while grabbing an oar to stabilize the ship. “HOLD THE COURSE!” The wind screamed like a living beast. Rain struck faces brutally while the vessel groaned in every direction. Min suddenly appeared on deck, soaked to the bone. Without hesitation, she grabbed a rope that was about to snap and pulled with a strength that surprised several sailors. Helena glanced at her briefly. The fragile servant had disappeared. In her place stood a true shieldmaiden. “Good!” Helena shouted. “Hold that sail or we all end up at the bottom of the sea!” Min simply nodded, fully focused. Meanwhile, Mikki ÞrĂkungr moved through the chaos with an almost absurd calm. “Hoho!” he laughed despite the raging waves. “Looks like Jörmungandr is waking up! He doesn’t seem very happy!” Mikal-Finnvard grabbed onto a mast before replying sharply: “I sincerely hope you are wrong, Mikki. Otherwise we are all doomed to be swallowed by the ocean.” Another massive wave crashed across the deck. Bruno nearly lost his footing. “Bruno!” Helena yelled. “Tie yourself to the mast immediately!” The young man, drenched and breathless, shouted back over the storm: “I’m not a child anymore, Helena! I can help too!” Before she could answer, a violent wave slammed directly into Helena and hurled her against the wooden deck. Only the rope she grabbed at the last second prevented her from being swept into the sea. At that same moment, Johannes collapsed to his knees. A horrifying scream escaped his throat. He clung desperately to the ship’s railing while his entire body seemed to fight against something invisible. His hands trembled violently. His eyes shut repeatedly as though he were battling a presence buried deep within himself. “Johannes!” Bruno shouted while trying to approach him. But Johannes screamed again. A sound almost animal. Then he curled against the soaked wood of the deck. Mikell stared at him silently, his smile gone for the first time in days. Lightning exploded across the sky. And then the wave came. Gigantic. Monstrous. The drakkar was lifted completely out of the water before splitting apart in a terrible crack. Wood shattered in every direction as the entire crew was thrown into the black ocean. Then there was only cold. Silence. And the depths. ... Hours later, the distant cries of seagulls finally pierced the fog. Helena slowly opened her eyes. Every part of her body hurt. Around her, the sea had become calm again. She was clinging to a large floating plank. Johannes was there as well, collapsed beside her, unconscious but alive. His breathing remained heavy and painful, yet the agony visible on his face slowly faded as the storm disappeared. Neither of them had the strength to speak. Carried by the current, they eventually reached a rocky beach on a deserted island. Helena collapsed onto the freezing shore, unable to feel anything except the cold sinking deep into her bones. Then she noticed another body further away. Min. Motionless. Helena forced herself back to her feet despite her trembling legs and rushed toward her. “Min... wake up...” No answer. She quickly rolled Min onto her side to clear the seawater trapped in her throat and lungs. Then Helena placed both hands firmly against her chest and began applying strong, steady compressions, trying to force her breathing to return despite her own exhaustion. Saltwater finally escaped from Min’s mouth. Helena kept going. Again. Again. Suddenly, Min coughed violently before gasping for air. Helena briefly closed her eyes in relief. Min was alive. Breathless, soaked, and completely exhausted, Helena finally dropped onto the wet stones beside her. “You owe me one again...” Then she slowly laid back against the freezing beach, too tired to move another inch. And while the cold sea wind drifted across the unknown island, only one thought remained in her mind: Where were the others? đŸ’™đŸ€đŸ’™đŸ€đŸ’™đŸ€đŸ’™đŸ€đŸ’™đŸ€đŸ’™đŸ€đŸ’™đŸ€đŸ’™đŸ€ Ek vakna djĂșpt Und himni svartum SĂŠrinn blÊðir Skipin grĂĄta nĂș Óðinn ĂŸagnar Mensk börn drukkna Eg bind vindrinn Með tönnum mĂnum JĂĄrn himinn brotnar Und hafsins reiði Fenrir hlĂŠr hĂĄtt MjÇ«k nĂŠr dauði HrĂm!
