Two men walk into a bar
Two men walk into a bar. The first man orders a scotch and soda. The second man remembers something he'd forgotten, and it doubles him over with pain. He falls to the floor shaking and then through the floor into the earth. He looks back up at the first man, but he doesn't call out to him. They're not that close. - Two men walk into a bar One lifts his glass, the other looks far Something forgotten, buried in the deep Pulls him down through the floor to sleep The first man orders his drink with ease A scotch and soda, no hesitation, please The second man remembers what he’d lost It doubles him over, his heart the cost Shaking now, he hits the ground The pain, it pulls him down, down, down Through the floor, into the earth below But he doesn’t scream, doesn’t let it show He looks up, through the cracks in the floor Sees the man who was just there before But no words come, no cry for help They're not that close, he thinks to himself I’m falling down, but you don’t see You're sipping scotch, forgetting me I could call your name, but what’s the use? We're strangers now, too far, too loose I’m sinking fast, through dirt and stone You’re up there standing all alone But no hand will reach, no voice will call We’re not that close after all The first man finishes his drink, stands tall While the second man’s fading, about to fall His body’s sinking, but his mind’s still here In the space between memory and fear He doesn’t scream, doesn’t ask for aid He just watches as the first man fades Into the distance, a shadow in the night And everything feels so out of sight Down here, I can see it clear We were never close, that’s why I’m here I could shout your name, but what’s the point? You’re lost in your world, I’m in this void Nothing to say, nothing to lose Just let me fall, I didn’t choose But down I go, without a sound Swallowed by the earth, underground I’m falling down, but you don’t see You're sipping scotch, forgetting me I could call your name, but what’s the use? We're strangers now, too far, too loose I’m sinking fast, through dirt and stone You’re up there standing all alone But no hand will reach, no voice will call We’re not that close after all Not that close, not that close... Just let me go, just let me go...
