[Verse 1] When the city goes quiet When the streetlights blink There's a door underground Where the sensible don't think No sign No name Just three little knocks coming in [Chorus] I followed a goblin down a dead end street Past a rusted gate and a broken concrete He looked over his shoulder grinned tooth to tooth Said you're late darling we've been waiting for you Inside was a warehouse ceiling lost in smoke Fairies on the rafters laughing at some joke A witch in silver boots was dancing on a crate While something with six elbows was guarding the gate [Verse 2] Nobody asked me who I was or where I'd been They just poured me something glowing and they pulled me in [Chorus] Where the strange things go Bass in the bones and the red lights low Round round round let the whole world spin If this is a nightmare don't wake me up again Fairy on my shoulder goblin at my feet Something in the darkness moving with the beat Down down down let the old world fall You came here to dance you came here for all [Verse 3] There were fawns by the speakers barely dressed in leaves A pair of little demons selling glitter by their sleeves A dryad in the corner had a tree grown through her hair And an ancient horn creature was staring through my stare The DJ was a goblin with a crown made out of wire He raised one crooked finger and the whole room caught fire [Chorus] The kick went boom boom boom The walls went boom boom boom My heartbeat followed boom boom boom soon Someone whispered in my ear Don't think just move I said who are you She laughed You'll remember [Chorus] Where the strange things go Bass in the bones and the red lights low Round round round let the whole world spin If this is a nightmare don't wake me up again Fairy on my shoulder goblin at my feet Something in the darkness moving with the beat Down down down let the old world fall [Outro] The ceiling disappeared The fairies took flight The goblins just cheered Well this should be a night The floor started widening the fawns danced around The witches kept spinning as the walls left the ground The moon came through the roof The creatures looked up One goblin yelled beautiful and raised up his cup Then I looked around and suddenly knew There wasn't a single familiar face in the room I felt something underneath my skin Little wings trying to get out again I laughed and someone laughed back I stamped my foot and the floor stamped back The goblin stopped the music looked straight at me and smiled finally Down down now I know the way I've been dreaming of this away every night and every day Round round round let the whole world spin I didn't lose myself here I finally let me in Fairy on my shoulder goblin at my feet Something in my shadow dancing with the beat Down down down hear the other world call One of us [Instrumental] [Outro] Three little knocks Two little horns One little doorway And I was never human When I was born Come in darling
