My darlin’, my darlin’, don’t speak untrue Tell me where did you rest last eve? Among the pines, where daylight fades And the cold winds made me grieve. My darlin’, my darlin’, where did you roam? I wandered where the chill winds moan, Among the trees, where shadows fall, And the sun has never shone. Her lover worked the iron rails, Fell a mile beyond the bend, They found his cap near the turning wheel, But his bones were lost to wind. My darlin’, my darlin’, don’t speak untrue Tell me where did you rest last eve? Among the pines, where daylight fades And the cold winds made me grieve.
