When the Fjords Forget the Ice — Ember of Midgard — Nordic Folk Rock
Lyrics [Dramatic Opening] The mountain wakes before the dawn, but something ancient now is gone. Where winter carved the valley white, dark water moves beneath the light. The old trees whisper through the vale: “Do you remember how we were?” [Verse 1] My father knew the frozen sound of iron runners on the ground, when every lake became a road and snow lay deep beside our homes. Now winter comes with empty hands, then leaves before it understands. The river breaks its bonds too soon, beneath a pale and restless moon. [Pre-Chorus] And the forest bends, but does not speak our name. Branches wait for birds that never came. [Chorus] When the fjords forget the ice, when the silent valleys change, will we watch the old world vanish, will we call the loss our fate? No — the tale is not yet ended, there are choices left to make. What was wounded can be guarded, what is living we can save. [Verse 2] Along the shore the boats are tied, but fishermen distrust the tide. The sea that fed their fathers well now moves beneath a stranger spell. Far inland where the pines once stood, grey earth is showing through the wood. A mother points beyond the trees: “Once there were herds upon those fields.” Her child looks out across the plain, but waits for shapes that never came. [Pre-Chorus] And the ocean turns, heavy against the stone. Even the wild should never stand alone. [Chorus] When the fjords forget the ice, when the silent valleys change, will we watch the old world vanish, will we call the loss our fate? No — the tale is not yet ended, there are choices left to make. What was wounded can be guarded, what is living we can save. [Instrumental Folk Break] Tagelharpa pulse, nyckelharpa melody, low horns, heavy drums and soaring melodic guitars. [Bridge] Plant where axes left the ground bare. Guard the river running there. Leave enough for hoof and wing. Learn again what seasons bring. We inherited no endless land, only something placed within our hands. And somewhere underneath the snow, a sleeping seed still waits to grow. [Choir Build] CHOIR: Still it grows! Still it breathes! Still the earth remembers! Still it grows! Still it breathes! We can choose what follows! [Final Chorus] When the fjords remember ice, when the forests breathe again, when the wings return above us and the rivers run unchained, then our children will remember we were not too late to change. What was wounded can be guarded. What is living we can save. CHOIR: WE CAN SAVE! What is living we can save! [Outro] The mountain waits beneath the dawn. Not everything we loved is gone. And underneath the waking earth, a thousand roots prepare for birth.
